You're wrong. Trudeau stepped down in Jan and at the beginning of Feb Carney was down 23 to 44.

You certainly are NOT.

Cons are still pts below Libs in number of seats. "Fantastic" would be taking the lead. Duh

I'm not wrong, Carney wasn't elected at the beginning of February. The polls you're looking at are asking which of the potential leadership candidates who were running would be most popular

Carney was not elected leader until the beginning of March. And almost immediately their popularity shot up

Nice try kiddo :)

And yes, that was a fantastic showing. You need to remember that we are basically a five-party system, not a two party like you. In the united states it has to be kept to party so that people like you can figure out who's running without taking your mittens off

But in Canada we wear gloves so we can go up to five :)

It is very rare for a prime minister to be elected with more than 40% of the vote and normally 40% of the vote would be a guaranteed majority

To get 41 is incredible. Trump's interference meant that the liberals managed to get 43 By using trump to scare the voters from the other parties to vote for them

That is still a fantastic showing Better than any conservative and the vast majority of liberal leaders have done in 40 years

It was Poilievre's race to lose, and he lost it big time by copying Trump. He tried to import the culture wars, and Canadians were too savvy, and rejected that. And what was up with copying Trump's slogan "America First" (translation: f*ck everyone else) - and trying to rally the Canadian public with "Canada First" - that just doesn't work with Canadians! We see ourselves as cooperators, not arrogant fools.

"Canada strong" much better resonated with Canadians.

It was absolutely not his race to lose. I realize that you are absolutely desperate to create this false narrative because you can't cope with the truth and that has become apparent. Which is really odd because the truth really isn't that bad

Had Justin Trudeau stayed in power and gone to an election then it would have been poilievreS to lose. As it stands when trump attacked and carney was elected the conservatives actually immediately fell behind and were about 12 points down

So if anything it was Carney's to lose and somehow he managed to blow that lead and not pull off a majority government.

And this was probably his one big chance if the NDP elect a new leader and gets behind the party again carney won't have the votes

Carney was the only one polled because he was the leader all along.

You said he started out strong right after Trudeau quit, but HE DID NOT.

Funny... many of the Canadians on this forum have been cheering on dumping America and not just seeking an end to Trump's tariff war or rhetoric, but to fully retaliate and to punish America beyond that.

So they chose "Elbows Up".

Yesterday Trump said Canada made the right choice because Poilievre doesn't like him and figures he and the carney will get along just fine.

Canada...you been had.

Its so lonely in m'saddle since m'horse died.

No, I said he started out strong as soon as he won the leadership  :)  After Trudeau left they needed a new leader. So they had a contest to see who would become the new leader. A number of people put their names forward and they fought it out and then about mid-march Carney won the leadership race and a week later he became the leader.

At that point the polls took off in favour of him and the liberals, but before that he wasn't the leader.  You posted a chart and said in FEBRUARY he was behind....  he wasn't leader in February :)

This is a bright spot in the political landscape. Canadians are generally very decent people and it's great to see them reject MAGA/MCGA in favor of decency.

It's unfortunate that it takes watching the US fall apart to remind other democracies to protect what they have.

Carney is NOT backing/supporting Trump's plans, M0R0N.

He definitely appears to be
