First, I apologise for not providing a link. If I recall incorrectly, I am sure CanFox and Nationalist will set me straight.

Somebody recently told me that President Elect Trump will quickly make the US energy independent.

I am curious though. If the US is about to be energy independent, why is President Elect Trump going to give the green light to the Keystone Exel pipeline?

Short answer:

Cuts cost

Safer

Less pollutants

More tax revenue

Don't you think that if I were wrong that I would know it?

But, he wants to stop foreign oil dependency. Why does he want Canadian oil when he is putting a 25% tafiff on it? It won't be cheap any more.

No it won't. Oil sells at market price. 100% of the tariff is absorbed by the seller.

The US is already "energy independent" according to the standard definition of the term. We're net energy exporters. Domestic oil production levels have been at record highs

No one is truly independent in a global market, but we make more energy than we consume. If push came to shove we could eliminate exports and imports and go it alone. We'd need to focus refining capacity on domestic-grade products in such a scenario, but the energy is there.

Honestly, though, the answer to the question in the OP is as simple as spite.

Not sure what specifics Trump has said on energy independence this election cycle, the term I am aware of him using is energy dominance.

You are conflating things here anyhow, trying to mix what posters on this forum have said with what Trump is doing... Its apples to oranges.

The Keystone pipeline would be who knows how many years away from completion if anyone even wants to anymore. No thanks to Democrats who have delayed and fought it every step of the way and with Biden finally killing it. I think most of the infrastructure has been ripped up and is long gone now.
