blackbird Posted November 3, 2024 Report Posted November 3, 2024 " OTTAWA (Reuters) -Canada will on Monday unveil the details of its long-awaited plan to cap emissions of greenhouse gases from the oil and gas sector, an idea which the energy industry and some provinces strongly oppose. Canada said in December 2023 it wanted oil and gas companies to cut emissions up to 38% from 2019 levels by 2030 by introducing a cap-and-trade system, and would unveil its draft proposals before the end of 2024." Canada to unveil proposed emissions cap on oil and gas sector on Monday Many Canadians are struggling with the housing crisis and the cost of living. Imposing emission controls on the oil and gas sector, which is a major economic driver, will just add more to the cost of living for Canadians and make life more difficult. This government must go ASAP. Quote

I'm pretty sure the oil and gas companies were happier with the carbon tax because without it the alternatives default to them. A carbon tax helps them shift the responsibility from fossil fuel companies to customers, voters and elected officials. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0921800923003087#:~:text=This paper has shown that,78% support a carbon tax. Okay, this is happening everywhere around the world and in the meantime PP is still going to be under pressure to maintain Canada's international emissions reduction commitments. I doubt our peer nations who are actually making progress and reducing their emissions are going be any more forgiving about our backsliding than they are towards our military commitments. I suppose PP could simply be honest and admit he just doesn't give a damn about climate change. That would make everything a lot easier don't you think? 1 Quote A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.

Man cannot control the climate so why try to control it and harm the economy for everyone? Just try to mitigate the effects of changing climate. Prepare for forest fires and floods, which we should be doing anyway. 1 Quote

They'll make industry play by the rules everyone else has to instead of doing what they're told by Big Oil? Quote
