In an effort to reduce demands on the medical system, the communist anti-business NDP has ended the practice of demanding "sick notes" from an employee's doctor.
They stated  that in 2024 over 1.6 million sick notes wasted doctor's time and possibly compromised the health of other people by requiring anyone claiming to be sick to visit a clinic, hospital ot doctor's office.

They will still be required for lengthier illness that involves benefit claims, but not the day or two illnesses that are part of standard labour laws in the province.

No, they stated that about 1.5 million hours were spent writing notes

Unless you're suggesting it takes an hour to write a sick note.

And very clearly that number is insane, if you divide that into the number of family doctors that write such notes currently operating in British Columbia that would mean every single doctor spent about 2  months a year solid doing absolutely nothing but writing sick notes. Which is nuts. that would be tens of millions of sick notes in a province with 5 million people. Most employers do not require a sick note for a day or two.

As it is the concept is decent but they should have refined it a bit more. This leaves the door open to significant abuse, it would have been more reasonable to say something like you don't need a doctor's note if you're sick day use per year is under three or four or something like that. So if every year you are sick for a day or two it's no big deal no no required if you start trying to use up all of your sick days by taking a sick day once a month or something like that then you would need the note from the doctor.

Like most problems with the NDP, they did spot something that should have been resolved, but their method for resolving it is mediocre if we're being kind

So they wrote even more sick notes than that.

No as I said their numbers are obviously wrong, what they've claimed is not possible

I suppose you could say they've been dishonest about more sick notes than that but I don't see how that helps your case
