ExFlyer Posted September 24, 2024 Report Posted September 24, 2024 (edited) My question is why is it only CRA employees? Is no other government agency investigating to find out if any of those employees illegally got CERB payments? "The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has provided new data on the number of employees who were found to have received the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) during the COVID-19 pandemic. The investigation into inappropriate CERB payments began in June 2023. All CRA employees were reviewed and 600 were identified as requiring additional investigations." https://ottawa.ctvnews.ca/number-of-cra-employees-fired-for-inappropriately-claiming-cerb-approaches-300-1.7048785 "The CRA has since decided many people were ineligible for the payments and has been working to get the money back. It said it's still trying to get about $9.53 billion paid back from individuals including $5.41 billion from CERB, $2.67 billion from CRB and $1.25 billion from the Canada Recovery Caregiving Benefit. My guess is it would be really easy for CRA to investigate their own employees on this because they already have the information at their fingertips. As for the rest of the federal public sector...well...the Liberals really need those votes. 😑 Quote "A man is no more entitled to an opinion for which he cannot account than he does for a pint of beer for which he cannot pay" - Anonymous
herbie Posted September 24, 2024 Report Posted September 24, 2024 Might be that the CRA is the agency that investigates fraudulent tax related claims. Like how would Fisheries or any other employer for that matter even know if their employees made the claims? They remit taxes on what you earn working for them, they don't file your taxes. A silly accusation. It is news because their own supposedly responsible employees were stupidly claiming them thinking they'd get away with it. Quote

CRA will have copies of the T4's issued by salaried employees for all companies and government departments. 1 Quote
herbie Posted September 24, 2024 Report Posted September 24, 2024 Correct, they are the only ones that do and can compile them. That is why this fraud is news Their own employees were involved. A trust issue. Many, many other people were caught as well but weren't involved in assessing the taxes of others. Those stories are yesterday's news. Quote
