The problem for him is that if this kind of thing happened in isolation people might blow it off - he was thinking of something else, momentarily distracted etc.  

But now that people are aware he's got cognitive challenges it's hard to dismiss this kind of thing. He looks lost, he looks confused, he looks incompetent and non presidential and people will be looking for every example of this and posting it everywhere from now till election day. 

This just doesn't get better for him.
