Michael Hardner
Regarding SSM, supposing opponents of SSM won in the votes, you think they'll do something to tighten and cement the definition of marriage so it can no longer be challenged in the future by any groups? I think the Supreme Court's decision will stand and that the best the government do is reclassify same sex marriage as 'civil union' or something similar. That's assuming that the vote passes, which it very well might not. Another question is now much the current PM really wants the vote to pass. He's always emphasized that he wants a free vote, and if he gets a free vote that doesn't pass he can move forward and put the whole issue behind him. That would mean one less 'scare tactic' issue that the Liberals could use against him in urban areas. scribblet
do you all think, with all the other problems out there... that this issue is that important? I do, and completely agree with it. How can we not want to protect our children. I would have to question the motives of anyone who disagrees with it, if it has the close in age clause. I thinkwe all agree that children need to have safeguards in place, but i guess what I am not getting here is why this is such a big deal to some of you? Again, is there something happening out there that is precipatating this drive to change the law? betsy
Again, is there something happening out there that is precipatating this drive to change the law? Yes. Everyone's concerned about fighting child exploitation, pornography, etc. One example was given when a man was arrested for trying to lure a 13 year old girl online. His rationale was that that age is okay in Canada. Something associated with the close in gap in the current AoC. The chiefs of police association had strongly endorsed this move too. tml12
I am no Conservative by far, but on this issue Toews is right on the money on this one. I hope it does get pass for all of our kids' sake. Agreed. Quote "Those who stand for nothing fall for anything." -Alexander Hamilton
