CdnFox Posted April 9, 2024 Report Posted April 9, 2024 https://archive.ph/R6rte Mark Carney offers a preview of what he’d look like as Justin Trudeau’s successor — and what he’d stand for The former Bank of Canada governor is carefully offering an alternative vision for the country’s future, Susan Delacourt writes. (How do you fix the mess we're in?) One way, Carney said, is to “spend, support, subsidize.” He called this a “heartfelt” response to economic troubles, but warned that “prioritizing the new and the immediate can defund the old such as health care, and it can crowd out private initiative and it can lead to an eventual and brutal reckoning.” The second way, he said, is to “demolish, destroy, deny.” Carney said this is the approach of right-wing populists, who prey on the perception that government is broken. Poilievre has also been saying this, and Carney reminded the audience that the forces against Brexit in the U.K. also had a “broken Britain” slogan. “Their solution was to take back control,” he said, “but that was actually code for tear down the future.” Carney offered up a third option, clearly intended to be seen as a middle ground between Trudeau Liberalism and Poilievre Conservatism. Essentially, he said, it revolves around an economic agenda built on shared goals and values, driven neither from the top down or by a “slash-the-beast” crusade. CdnFox Posted April 9, 2024 Author Report Posted April 9, 2024 He's a tax and spend liberal who's saying he'll tax and spend slightly less. "an economic agenda built on shared goals and values" Is code for unicorn farts and lining his own pockets while suckering the lowest thinkers in our society to vote for him. This guy would be every bit as bad for Canada as trudeau was, but he'd get caught slightly less. 2 Quote There are two types of people in this world: Those who can extrapolate from incomplete data

They don't have anyone else with a 'name power' draw, and the next leader has to be English by their rules. Of course, the good part is they virtually never actually WIN with an Anglo in charge because Quebecers turn away from them then. One side note. If he becomes leader he will be the first Liberal party leader not from Ontario or Quebec. Edited April 11, 2024 by I am Groot 1 Quote

There's a few others who might put up a fight, but clearly he's already being groomed for the role. I think the libs have a bit of a consensus that the next leader has to be able to say he had nothing to do with the disaster of the last 10 years. But honestly i think he's being stupid. I suspect the next leader will also fail. The trudeau decade will still be too fresh and this guy is still a liberal elitist. And he doesn't know how to run an election campaign - it is not that easy. And one thing that's been true for almost a century is that liberals will not tolerate failure - if he loses an election he's gone. I suspect PP will get two terms. He will get decent results which people will like and he's a strong campaigner which means he knows how to win.
