Certainly in 2006 radical changes were made to the system that were specifically designed to greatly enhance the benefit to Canada of immigration. And immigration has done well for us over the years by and large. The impact of the changes was offset by the large number of family-class immigrants who are not required to pass any kind of skill, education or language tests. This is a critique of the immigration system from seven years ago by a former head of Immigration Canada. He points out that only 15%-17% of immigrants are required to pass any sort of test. It's almost certainly a lot lower now. And he quotes a variety of studies which showed immigration not really doing much good for Canada. Again, note that this is from seven years ago, just as Trudeau was getting started on screwing things up. The truth is that the government has lost control of the immigration program by abandoning its traditional role of selecting our immigrants and controlling their numbers. Canadians have been brainwashed into believing we are doomed if we don’t keep immigration levels high. We are also told that our immigration policies are acknowledged to be the envy of the world. These arguments are wrong. https://ottawacitizen.com/opinion/columnists/bissett-immigration-policy-is-out-of-control-and-needs-an-overhaul And even seven years ago the immigration department had a report - and presumably the Trudeau government did too, which pointed to deteriorating conditions for immigrants, that our ability to absorb more immigrants was almost nill, and that ethnic enclaves were growing as more immigrants stopped learning the local language. https://vancouversun.com/opinion/columnists/douglas-todd-canada-struggling-to-absorb-immigrants-internal-report-says Edited July 25 by I am Groot
