Today, Donald Trump’s attorney argued before a Federal court of appeals that Donald Trump cannot be prosecuted for crimes he allegedly committed while President. He argued that a President can ONLY be prosecuted for committing a crime if he is first impeached and convicted by the Senate.

John Lauro then argued that President Joe Biden should be prosecuted for (get this) violating Donald Trump’s Absolute Immunity.

So Donald Trump has absolute immunity from prosecution… but Joe Biden does not.

IF POTUS has "absolute immunity" like Trump claims, Biden can order Seal Team 6 to assassinate Trump and then resign, making Kamala POTUS. Cause according to Trump's lawyers, the immunity ONLY occurs if the POTUS is NOT impeached and convicted.

By resigning, Biden can assure never being convicted in impeachment. :insane:

yeah, all of this was really interesting today... particularly since Trump showed up. there is talk that Trump was there because the "genius" arguments, which were actually ridiculous and were utterly destroyed by the common logic of other participants, was Trumps alone. that he actually fed his lawyers these ridiculous assertions. that his lawyers would never make such moronic arguments because most of them have half a brain.

i'm sure it was a sobering affair for the ex president.

interested in the excuses Trump fans make. like why would he make such moronic arguments? or if it wasn't his idea then why would he sit there and let such moronic arguments be made on his behalf? why does he need to be "immune" when he didn't commit any crime? i know, i know... it doesn't matter if he committed a crime. he should be allowed to commit crimes. him alone.

Biden wouldn’t need to resign. He’d just order the assassination of all the Republican Senators who would vote for his impeachment. Because he’d be immune from that, too.

They get dumber and dumber, and now they’re all the way full circle to “Trump has absolute Presidential immunity and Biden does not.”

its no wonder Trump wants to delay all of this until after the election. he has no legs to stand on and he is going to get fried in court on all counts.

the Eugene Carroll and New York business cases are nothing like this. he's been able to make excuses for that stuff... "never met the woman", "never saw the accounting materials"... the stuff coming is way more raw, way more real, there will be no excuses except for more "you don't understand because you don't see me as the second coming" stuff!

I wouldn't bet on Democratic Senators not voting to convict Joe in that scenario.

Cause Democrats and their voters hold criminals responsible for their crimes.

Actually that's basically what nixon did. Resigned and had the vp pardon him on the way out and he got away with all manner of crimes. As long as they're federal crimes that actually works :)

And there's some question as to whether the president can even pardon themselves.

As to murder - sure. Obama had people killed around the world in drone strikes etc without trial or anything else. That's murder. If you did it you'd be up on charges.  But a president can get away with it provided the crime is committed in the execution of their duties.

The Presidential Pardon is all the difference in the world.  In fact, it means Trump’s argument of immunity is bogus, because Nixon needed that pardon.

No, the fact that there is one mechanism to excuse a person doesn't mean there isn't others.  What it does prove is that it is not rediculous - there ARE ways and so pretending that there's no way for a president to dodge guilt is not reasonable

You can still have other ways as well.  However - flipping it i think that while one might possibly argue the president is immune from prosecution for actions in connection with his duties, i think trump suggesting that ALL crimes are immune is probably a severe stretch

I mean obama killed a man in a foreign country that he wasn't at war with and in violation of his laws and the us laws. Jail? Nope - bragged about it.  But - that was specifically in keeping with his duties. If he'd just walked out on the lawn and shot someone who's tie he didn't like...  not sure he'd have skated prosecution in that case.
