Legault was born in 1957. Putin in 1952.

Both men were born after the most recent 30 year European war (1914-1945).

IMHO, both men want to protect, make their societies, countries better, stronger.

For most people, they are both leaders.

In the mind of Putin, he arrived at power (control) when Russia was lost - he had to fix things.

In the mind of Legault, he arrived at power when he had to make Quebec stronger, independent.

One man is a mass murderer and a warranted war criminal. One needs a seriously f@cked up brain to say these things. No, seriously.

Putin is a thug. Legault is a modern politician.

Make no mistake: neither is a Hitler, Napoleon. Unlike Lenin, Putin does not want to change the world.

Everyone alive today talks about appeasement. That's what they know.

IMHO, our current world situation is closer to 1912 or so.

In 1913, the entire world had a wonderful society - wonderful potential. Civilised societies

And then, an elite destroyed themselves.

"Wonderful societies" ruled by ruthless, aggressive empires. Division of Poland; occupation of Baltic countries and Finland. Conquest of Caucasus. One needs a seriously f@cked up brain to say that. Seriously.

In 1912 - the summer of 1914  - the world was not perfect.

Nowadays, 2023 or so, every politician is worried about 1938 or so

We remember the wars of our children.

There's no "we". At times in the humanity's history there are brutal, and fascist tyrants, and those who stand up to them. In those times the rule is simple: you give in to fascism or you stand up to it, and there's nothing in between and no empty worthless words could fill the chasm.

No, they absolutely didn't. This is just more of your clueless and revisionist history.

In the summer of 1914, an elite destroyed itself - and it killed many. many ordinary people over the next three decades.

In the summer of 1789, a similar event occurred.

I suggest that you read Dickens' novel - A Tale of Two Cities. As a Canadian, it is a wonder.

A "Canadian", in what, passport? As a Canadian, one would support the international law. Would one illegally visit a territory occupied by a brutal fascist aggressor, defying the international law and the legal authorities, while supporting the claims of the occupiers?

Some "Canadians" here. An "Australian" was killed in an airstrike in Lebanon with his brother Hezbollah member.

Read it.  I've also read War and Peace, which was actually a better historical/social commentary that Dickens'.  Regardless, a basic knowledge of history prior to 1914 would firmly establish that the world was not "wonderful" prior to 1914.

Dickens' story was based on Macauley - but it's simply a good story. Robertson Davies tried something like this.

War and Peace? No patience for the deer hunt.

I disagree.

The world of 1913 was good and civiliised. And then, an elite got involved in nonsense, it killed itself - and for the next 30 years, many ordinary people died.

We now speak of the Thirty Years War, In fact, it had two stages.

I suspect that in the far future, people will speak of this period between 1914-1945 as we now refer to the Napoleonic Wars.
