West Posted August 28, 2023 Report Posted August 28, 2023 Billions down the tubes and inflation at 7%. Do people still believe the gubernment can stop them from getting a flu bug? Do people still think it was worth it? Quote
CdnFox Posted August 29, 2023 Report Posted August 29, 2023 Well no offense but it's obviously a bit of a loaded question I'll take an honest crack at it tho. I think in the early days that the gov't acted with an abundance of caution to an illness they knew nothing about. Shutting down the country and locking everyone up IS IN FACT the tradtional way of dealing with plagues and pandemics and it DOES tend to SLOW infection rates. Then the illnesses mutate to a less deadly variety or die out. A very fatal highly transissive illness generally can only go so far before it kills off it's hosts and the remaining people are immune or not going to catch it, So i think they did slow things down initially. The 'curve' did indeed 'flatten' for a little while. I think that the death counts are completely misleading. Anyone who died WITH covid instead of FROM covid was a covid death. I think the old people needed to be protected by extreme measures - but protecting the rest of the population by the end of 2020 was unnecessary and possibly harmful. I honestly wish we had never come up with a vaccine. It has lead to more heartache and problems and health issues as a result of the fighting between people about being vaxxed or not than the illness could have. And that's permanent. I think you can't say that the actions of the gov't did NO good. I think that's just silly. I think they did save some lives in the beginning. But - i think they went too far and DEFINITIVELY too long. There was strong issues wiht original covid - there was less of a case with the delta variant, and virtually no case by the omicron or final variant. Like most things the truth is somewhere in between. Looking back it just went on too long and it divided people too much - i honestly think that in the long run we'd have been better off with no vaccine at all rather than the firing of medical staff we desperately needed, the huge division and ripping apart of family and friends, and the economic harm done.
