The above homes sell in a week. Beautiful homes with top of the line everything. These are average homes on a Long Island NY town.

Isn’t that the problem in many Democratic cities, though? I know it’s a side effect of success, and rampant nimbyism that politicians are terrified to take on, but sky high house prices are helping to drive out even well off people from the likes of NYC.

Yea Yea, the old driving people out of NY because of expensive real estate. Expensive real estate is created by people, not by an exodus of people. Many of the examples I've shown will sell in a few days, with bidding wars that ad another 100k to the price. No body is leaving NY. Actually there's a trend now of people moving back into NY city. Population has gone up 400k in the last yr and a half with business booming everywhere. Doesn't quite fit the everyone is leaving NY narrative that rightwingdingalings are always bleating about

See...I happen to like sane places. Toronto is far from sane now. Hence I'm looking for another place to call home. A nice little town on a lake with a golf course or two, a pizza place, and a pub. A place where its safe to wonder around after dark.

None of which is NYC.

High housing prices on its own is not an indicator that your place is better than another. High housing prices tell you of high demand but more specifically high demand amongst those who are relatively wealthy. I have been to NYC and it was fun to visit. However... to live there, I am not so sure. I would much rather live in a place like Reno, Missoula, Elko, Bend OR, or Cody WY. Small but not too small with plenty of outdoor recreation opportunities.

Having been in a bar in both NYC and Challis, ID.. the only real difference is the selection.

I'm not sure actually. I hate living in Toronto and proclaim it in my local all the time. This city has become a shithole too and I want out of it. Yet...nobody ever disagrees with me on that one. Interesting...

It is simple human nature.. Start calling someone names and mix in some alcohol and the action starts. 

I do not know about Toronto. Only place that I have ever been that earned the title of shithole is Bakersfield, CA. NYC, Minneapolis, Kansas City, Denver, Chicago.. all have pockets of not so great but plenty that is fine. Bakersfield looked like no one had bothered to maintain a building or road in 20 years. Every building was falling apart and decrepit.

Almost every night here, someone gets stabbed or shot. It happens right out in the open. Besides...I'm approaching retirement age and do not want to deal with the bike lanes or constant traffic jams anymore.

I am not a fan of traffic jams either hence why I am looking to get a remote job and move to a smaller town (but not too small)  out West. Reno is fine but my current 40-mile one way commute gets old.
