Thanks you for your comments. An honest voice from America finally.

Sorry, NEWBIE, but I have to take some small issue with that remark.

Plenty of honest voices coming from the USA, but many of them are simply being drowned out.

Many others are honest in that they are voicing their true beliefs, but have been misled.

And finally, from where we are sitting, it's really REALLY difficult to know exactly what the truth is.

Who knows??? Maybe GWB really is the right guy doing the right thing for all the right reasons. (I don't tend to think so, but hey, that's just my opinion. There's several million differing opinions on that issue)

But I, like you, do like AW's take on the matter.

I need another coffee

Well I've yet to read of a statement from an American on this website pointing out the obvious problems in the U.S., honest meaing reality, not a Fox News fed bias. And yeah, it's my opinion.

How retarded is it to get into a big debate about something Tucker Carlson or Ann Coulter say?

Both of them are in the same bucket as most senior Canadian government officials, the Bush administration, the Chirac government in France, the Labour Party in Britain, etc., etc., etc. -- i.e. assholes and idiots.

Think for yourselves, rather than looking for some reason to justify your smug and unjustifiable sense of superiority because you popped out of mom's uterus 50 miles north or south of some arbitrary line. Egads.

Americans and Canadians bitching at each other and pointing out how different and superior they are is like a Brooklynite arguing with someone from Queens over the same topic. To the entire universe outside of the debate, they're all the same anyway.

I would, but you wouldn't like the answer much, because as someone who is a Yank but has also lived in Canada and Britain (and unlike most Canadians, speaks fluent Québecois), I have a few things to point out about Canada which the average latté-swiller on Bloor Street or moose-hunter in Medicine Hat wouldn't want to hear either. ;)

When someone wants to interview a Canadian and an American regarding U.S.-Canada relations they DO NOT NOT NOT call Carolyn Parrish and Tucker Carlson, two of the most hateful and racist people on either side of the border.

Carolyn and Tucker have something in common that most people seem unable to see. Both have driven many undecided voters to the opposite side. They are both act so crazy that they cannot be real. It is just entertainment.

And some humour for their equally bigoted, racist, and hateful bases.

The BIG difference between Parish and Carlson is.........

are you ready?

.... duh folks!

this is really easy....

... guess which one is on national televison

... guess which one calls himself a "newscaster"

... guess which one has a "following"

Caroline Parish said ONE THING, ONE TIME.

Carlson spews his crap daily to an audience of millions of enraptured followers.

Do you see the difference. Our idiots are not on national TV masquerading as professional journalists.

...jealous much?

Drea,

It is not that simple.

When he doesn't talk about Canada, Carlson makes a lot of very interesting points that many of us here on the Canadian right relate to. :)

Whereas Parrish was a former senior ranking member of the governing party. . . which is far worse than being a niche cable broadcaster in the USA.

Imagine if Donald Rumsfeld had stomped on a Paul Martin doll and stabbed it in the face on a CTV broadcast, and Americans had responded by saying "Donald Rumsfeld isn't a broadcast journalist."

Good Lord, what happened to civility?

Good point Yank.

For years the Liberals got away with their ridiculous and hateful comments (spurred on by Chretien) and the Americans paid no attention.

Carolyn Parrish was a typical example of a five year-old in a fifty year-old's clothing. I used to read her blog on carolynparrish.ca and read her ridiculous far left posts about governing Canada, etc. I do not know how the people in Ontario voted for her but I couldn't imagine she had much of a base among voters over 25.

I don't know how I missed this the first time I read your post. Parrish has a history of making anti-American remarks, as does Chretien...

I often have fantasies about what would happen if the United States government adopted a Liberal-Party-style policy back towards Canada -- i.e. actively undermining it, insulting its leaders, reneging on commitments to score political points at home, etc.

The effects would be rather deleterious on Canada as a whole, which is one reason I hope it never happens. But I just wish that people who advocate those sorts of tactics would stop, think, and imagine them being used back at them -- what the effects would be. And then ask themselves why they're prancing around with their fake moral superiority complex, when if they were the targets of their own behaviour, they'd be screaming bloody murder!

Just wondering YankAbroad, what UK party do you support?

I have some friends that live in the British Isles and lots of people from the UK are there, all HUGE Tory supporter. And, I may add, LOATH a politician named Ken Livingstone (he's the mayor, eh? They're afraid he is going to be Labour head).

I have taken a lot of UK Party tests to see what party I should vote for if I lived in the UK and they all tell me I don't match any requirements for ANY party there...we seem to think alike on some issues so that's why I posed the question...

Tucker Carlson is lame but Ann Coulter rules! She emasculates the Democrats with her razor wit and I get a huge kick out of that. :)

Oh that's a toughie.

In the last election, if I could have voted, I'd have voted for the Liberal Democrats. They're the only party consistently protecting civil liberties from Labour's big scary statist schemes like a mandatory citizen DNA database and mandatory ID cards.

However, I am impressed with David Cameron's leadership of the Conservative party, and have had several colleagues who are NOT "traditional Tories" get contacted by his deputy and invited to join the party and influence its policies. If he can get together with the LDs and agree on civil liberties, while advancing a free market economic policy and reorganisation of the clogged British government which reduces spending and improves efficiency, he could possibly form quite a compelling government.

LOATH a politician named Ken Livingstone

He is loathed across ideologies. I share their loathing. So does my conservative Tory bunch of friends. So do my ultra-left Green Party bunch of friends. The man is just an odious twat.

Ann Coulter rules! She emasculates the Democrats with her razor wit

Actually, I greatly enjoyed listening to a right-wing talk show rip Ms. Coulter to shreds.

Apparently, the listeners -- most of whom are gun enthusiasts and privacy advocates of the rural New Hampshire/Montana type -- were enraged over the Patriot Act. Ms. Coulter, expecting a friendly audience which would ignore her inanities, began defending the PATRIOT Act.

Bad idea. The bony little battleax got ripped to shreds by conservative callers. My favourite line:

Caller: "Why don't you think the PATRIOT Act is all that bad."

Coulter: "It's just liberals lying about it like they lie about everything. The PATRIOT Act doesn't give the government any powers they didn't have before."

Caller: "Have you read the PATRIOT Act?"

Coulter: "No, but--"

Caller: "Well if you haven't read the thing, what are you doing talking about it?!? I've read it and it's dangerous. People like you are selling us out to the government!"

Coulter: "Oh, this must be a liberal or something."

I have read a bit about Cameron and am also quite impressed with his work.

We'll see where it goes and hope where it does not go (another Labour majority).

Oh cripes. How can anyone fall for the oldest liberal trick in the book? The concerned "conservative" (really a liberal in disguise) worried that the PATRIOT Act is "bad". No proof. No evidence despite the hysterical shrieking of liberals.

Good grief. You see this tactic on every review at Amazon whenever it comes to reviewing a book by a conservative:

Name: Lifelong Republican

"As a registered Republican, I was anxious to read (insert conservative author's name), but I was deeply disappointed in the lies and jingoism in this book. Blah blah blah list all the leftwing talking points. If you want the truth, read Al Franken's new book."

Typical of liberal's contempt for everyone else. They really think everyone is stupid enough to fall for their elementary school tricks. ;)

It's inspiring to see how you are above having contempt for others and are far too intelligent to fall for those sneaky liberal tricks.

Of course, some lefties can't hide their contempt, but Sean Penn has again revealed that the Left is far more capable of unbalanced behavior: he has an Anne Coulter doll that he burns with his cigarettes. I am not making this up. What is it with Lefties and dolls? Remember Parish and her Bush stomping moment? LOL!

Next he will pie her since that seems to be the extent of political debate by some on the left these days. :)

According to your link Penn's anger at Penn is personal, not political. It is really facinating watching all you Bushies sitting around swaping 'dumb leftie' stories. Reminds me of a group of Canadians swaping 'dumb american' stories. In both cases, the stories say more about the tellers than the subject.

To fly a plane, you need both a left wing and a right wing.

Well I'll be happy to entertain you if that's all it takes! Sean Penn is considered a hero by the left. For him to get so bent out of shape so as to burn a doll with cigarettes over criticism by Coulter reveals much about him if you care to analyze. He is not a 'dumb lefty'. If that's all you get out of it you are missing the point.
