America Firster Isolationism

this is not in Canada's interests

there is no such thing as a Canada Firster

since American isolationism freezes Canada out too,  in the process

Army Guy,

The Soviet Union - Communist ideology - posed a serious threat to the West. Reagan won.

====

Russia today - Putin - poses no threat to the West.

IMHO, stubborn Slavs are fighting among themselves.

I'm sure NATO would love to hear this news, along with Sweden and Finland they could save themselves from all the grief that comes with being a NATO partner... the cold war is over, but Mother Russia is still consider a threat by NATO, and all of it's members. Ukraine is on the doorsteps of Europe, and is fanning the flames with other recent NATO members that used to be Warsaw pact countries...

To you it seems like to Slavs fighting each other...to the rest of the NATO alliance it is Russia who invaded a sovereign country for no other reason that annexing it, to put space between mother Russia and NATO...like NATO has a long history of attacking mother Russia...Would you say the same thing if France attacked Quebec, or the US attacked Canada... it's just those damn Frenchmen or  Americans fighting each among themselves...

We, the willing, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have now done so much for so long with so little, we are now capable of doing anything with nothing.

Disagree. Strongly.

Trump was correct. There is no longer a need for NATO.

Reagan won the Cold War.

I think your not familiar with what NATO does, or provides each member... it is more than a military organization, it provides access to other things as well , trade, economic benefits, assistance during natural disasters, a seat at the table, etc etc...

We, the willing, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have now done so much for so long with so little, we are now capable of doing anything with nothing.

If the Finns join NATO, that's my tell as a Canadian to leave the bar.

This is a European problem.

The Swedes got involved in the Thirty Years War. It may get ugly.

Oh THERE'S a good idea. Leave a military alliance when we're practically unarmed, and have Russia on our border in the North just as the North is starting to open up to being traveled and having its natural resources developed. Yeah, I'm sure your Russian friends will be kindly when they take whatever the hell they want.

should be noted that the PRC is moving into the Arctic now

the PLA Navy has extensive plans to deploy to the Arctic

to include manoeuvring their ballistic missile submarines into a counterforce strike position under the ice

again, Finland is not the front lines in this geopolitical confrontation

as this is a maritime conflict wherein the nuclear submarine is the arm of decision

Canada is the front lines

I really had a hard time understanding both sides of this debate, i mean other than the General having a hard time articulating his points, to be honest hard to do when time restraints are tight, and the other side takes up most of the talking space, the other surprise was David Pugliese who has been reporting on the military for more than 40 years, one would think he would know what he is talking about, but he displays sadly very little knowledge or atleast truthful knowledge, and he starts off by taking a hard liberal point of view...

Like my favorite the military is also asking for more money, or opt military is well equipped...stating that the Munitions for the Carl G are laser guided, which they are not, they are infact old , very old, not good for MBT but rather IFV, and trucks...i must have missed that part in my career, second boost about the TPAV purchase , which is garbage, and only holds 4 people...not a great Infantry carrier which we use it for... then our new LAV 6.0, which were made on the cheap, by cutting our LAV III in half then welding a new bottom half back on while an upgrade of sorts, it is really not a brand new vehicle, and they did not replace those LAV's lost in Afghanistan, instead told the army to make do... He knew all of that being a reporter of military facts for over 40 years...And the women, well she talks with authority but really knows little of the actual condition of out military, or their missions, another leftist with the view, that we don't really need a robust conventional force becasue if we engage with any nuclear country the world is doomed... i guess if you have nuclear weapons' you can do what you want when you want... or so she thinks...

Anyways this opinion and direction is what the average Canadian has...and we've been or are being told that recently retired Generals do not know what they are talking about...and this narrative is poisoning regular Canadians opinions. But this narrative is being shared by other NATO allied, recently the Ambassador from France to the point Canada is no longer a trusted member of 5 Eyes, and a poor allied in NATO, NORAD, this been said thousands of times, and we meaning our government shrugs it off, even signed the new agreements to spend 2 % at a NATO submit, then the next day told the worlds media it has no intention of spending any where close to that... and when finally pressured by US president trump, the liberals come up with creative accounting to boost our 5 of GDP, like including Veterans affairs expenses, RCMP budget, emergence preparedness budget, all while actually cutting back on military expenditures...

I know i lost you back on the 3 rd line...one day it will come to light what it is going to cost Canadians when there military fails are accomplishing most of it's mission... and people will blame the government of the day...but before we play our favortite game and start pointing fingers, regular Canadians are responsible for their share of this issue as well...
