The most dishonest headline ever by the MSM?

Recommended Posts

Okay, I understand that ideology is everything to the left. That is just the way they are. Who could ever forget Maryland State Senator Lisa Gladden--a black Baltimore Democrat--saying "party trumps race, especially on the national level" in response to Democrats throwing Oreo cookies at black Republican Michael Steele during a speech?

I understand that ideology is everything to the leftwing press, because they continue to report false information despite their credibility and subscribership dropping every day.

But this has to be the most dishonest headline ever:

Headline: Israeli Suicide Bomber Kills Five at Mall

NETANYA, Israel - A Palestinian suicide bomber blew himself up Monday among shoppers waiting to enter a shopping mall in the central Israeli town of Netanya, killing at least five bystanders and wounding more than 30.

I am not blaming Yahoo News because they, like most of the press, get their news from the leftwing Associated Press which has been caught lying numerous times.

You know, I hate to see people put out of work, but I have to admit that it brings a big smile to my face when I read about readership/subscribership steadily droppping at nearly ALL of the leftwing media sources. I want to see more layoffs at the NY Times and its affiliates; I want to see more layoffs at the LA Times and its affiliates.

You lying leftwing &%$&@ reporters/editors deserve everything you get.

The ASSociated Press was the organization that reported that Bush supporters booed Clinton's name at a Bush rally when Bush wished Clinton good luck on his then upcoming heart surgery.

Thank God for the Fox News Channel who happened to be at the same rally and had audiotape proving that the "booing" was another outright fabrication by the leftwing MSM. Now you know why the left foams at the mouth at the mere mention of the FNC; now you know why the Liberal Party-controlled CRTC had a 5 year ban on the FNC in Canada.

This is a perfect example of how much the left hates democracies (Israel), as they constantly demonize this country in the ME.

You communist/national socialists can go and F yourselves. I may be just a small business owner on the Canadian prairies, but I will fight you bastards to the bitter end.

And when the headline is changed (a constant dishonest tactic employed by the leftwing media), be assured that the rightwing bloggers have saved your original headline!

And that is why you HATE the bloggers (rightwing ones) and constantly sneer at them. Rathergate was a bitch, wasn't it?

Everything?

How about this then?:

"My only regret with Timothy McVeigh is he did not go to the New York Times Building, after everyone had left the building except the editors and reporters."

Right when they pelted, er...passed around, er..distributed the cookies...which story was it again?

Let it go: the cookie story is either a hoax or a overblown propaganda excersise aimed at gullible goofs. They got your number.

By spewing anonymous tirades on an internet message board? Give 'em hell, tough guy!

Headline: Israeli Suicide Bomber Kills Five at Mall

Story is no longer up. Based on the incongruity of the headline and the body copy, it looks like an error. But I guess right wing conspiracy nuts have never heard of Finagle's Law: "Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity."

That headline is just another nail in the coffin of MSM. Long live Fox.

Fox is part of the "MSM".

Fox is not considered part of the MSM by the rest of the MSM. But I agree with you that they are.

I still hope Fox lives long and prospers.

The problem with these 'errors' is they always slant the story to the left. And then after much protest they trot out the same old excuses.

Yeah like the liberal New York Times running all those stories hyping the administration's claims on Iraq WMDs. Or the media jumping all over Howard Dean for, well, everything.

The reality is that the media is biased, but that bias is both natural (since there is no such thing as an objective point of view) and structural (in that questions of left or right are less important than considerations like selling ads or being he first with a story). To say the media (a broad term which today covers everything from cable news to weblogs) is biased is simplistic, to say the least.

Ah, but the only example you keep coming up with on a right bias is the start of the war. In the last 15 years, MSM bias has been left leaning. Show me an example where a media error occured that gave a bias to the right. Surely the media would make a deal out of it, so they must be around if they exist.

The media, if you haven't noticed, is not the most self-critical profession around, so I wonder where you get the idea that if there was a right-wing bias, they would, essentailly, report themselves. Sounds to me like you're saying "the media is left wing so if there was any right wing content the left wing media would be all over it" which is circular reasoning.

And you've completely ignored the larger point, which is that framing media bias as a left vs. right issue is overly simplistic, given the range of other considerations.

I can't believe it, where is the protest?  That headline is just another nail in the coffin of MSM.  Long live Fox.

Can't you be called an Israeli unless you're a Jew?

There's a difference between what is technically accurate and what is implied.

"Israeli" might have been technically accurate in this situation (might, or might not...) but what is implied? What mental picture does someone form if you say "an Israeli"? I'm betting that for the overwhelming majority of readers, the phrase "an Israeli" does indeed bring to mind a Jewish person, and I doubt that there are any who would first think of a Palestinian living in the West Bank. And seriously, would many West Bank Palestinians would actually identify themselves as "an Israeli"?

Whether the headline is technically accurate or not is somewhat beside the point, as the headline creates a very wrong first impression. Do you think the headline was actually defensible? How about this one:

DISASTER: BOMBS HIT THEATRES

Jamie Foxx's Stealth and Ewan MacGregor's The Island among biggest box-office flops of 2005.

We have another contender

Headline from AFP:

Bush defends Iraq war, says he will attack another nation if necessary

WASHINGTON (AFP) - One day before Iraq’s historic parliamentary elections, US President George W. Bush defiantly defended his case for war and said he would preemptively attack another country if he deemed it necessary.

Here's the full text of Bush's speech.

There is nothing in his speech that says "he will attack another country if necessary" like the AFP headline reads. Nor did he say that "he would preemptively attack another country if he deemed it necessary".

It's another lie by the MSM.
