reason10 Posted March 15, 2023 Report Posted March 15, 2023 https://www.yahoo.com/news/only-path-poverty-house-republican-182953182.html ‘Work Is the Only Path Out of Poverty’: House Republican to Introduce Bill Expanding Food-Stamp Eligibility Requirements Representative Dusty Johnson (R., S.D.) will introduce a bill on Tuesday that would expand work-based eligibility requirements for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). The proposed bill, first reported by Politico, would enlarge the age group of SNAP recipients without dependents who must comply with work requirements to be eligible for food stamps. Advocates of the bill insist that refining the work requirements of SNAP beneficiaries will incentive recipients to escape poverty. Johnson, a member of the House Agriculture Committee whose own family relied on food stamps when he was a child, had made clear his intentions to change the eligibility requirements following his reelection in November 2022. Winning over three-quarters of the vote, Johnson told voters that combatting skyrocketing energy costs and reforming SNAP within the new Farm Bill would be his top priorities. “Work is an opportunity. It’s not a punishment,” Johnson told a crowd of supporters on Election Day in Sioux Falls, S.D. “There is no recipe for escaping poverty that doesn’t have work as a requirement.” Johnson said much the same in a recent statement to Politico: “We know that work is the only path out of poverty.” In other words, welfare bums, GET OFF YOUR FAT ASSES AND GET TO WORK. We're tired of supporting your useless ass. Businesses are hiring all over the place. GET A GODDAM JOB. NOW. Quote
robosmith Posted March 15, 2023 Report Posted March 15, 2023 ^This is NONSENSE. There are AT LEAST 2 other "path out of poverty." 1. Win the lottery 2. Win the parent lottery and inherit their wealth. Of course Republicans don't want their constituents to know that wealthy FAMILIES are paying for THEIR campaigns. AKA job application fees. You should tell everyone to stop playing the FL Lottery (which pays your teacher's salary) cause it is NOT a "path out of poverty." LMAO Quote

Arbeit macht frei ([ˈaʁbaɪt ˈmaxt ˈfʁaɪ] (listen)) is a German phrase meaning "Work sets you free" or "Work makes one free". The slogan is known for appearing on the entrance of Auschwitz and other Nazi concentration camps.[1] … In The Kingdom of Auschwitz, Otto Friedrich wrote about Rudolf Höss, regarding his decision to display the motto so prominently at Auschwitz: He seems not to have intended it as a mockery, nor even to have intended it literally, as a false promise that those who worked to exhaustion would eventually be released, but rather as a kind of mystical declaration that self-sacrifice in the form of endless labor does in itself bring a kind of spiritual freedom.[12] ….An example of ridiculing the falsity of the slogan was a popular saying used among Auschwitz prisoners: Arbeit macht frei durch Krematorium Nummer drei. Work makes you free Through crematorium number three.[11] https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arbeit_macht_frei 1 Quote

And both of those are so rare that they're not even worth mentioning. Look, I get that you're a democrat, so things like hard work and personal accountability completely escape you, but work is the only REALISTIC way out. And the only way someone can work consistently is to get their head right and be accountable. Now, go back to Disney+ and watch your favorite diversity program. Wokeness abounds in that pool of shit. BeaverFever Posted March 16, 2023 Report Posted March 16, 2023 (edited) America is the land of the working poor, the inescapable poverty trap and revolving door debtors prisons, where healthcare is the leading cause of bankruptcy and your medical treatment is provided at the sole discretion of your employer . Just the fact that people with no dependents and who already work still need food stamps as this bill suggests shows how messed up America is. Even Americans who live fairly comfortably now understand that they are just one unexpected financial setback, health mishap or layoff away from life-changing ruin and destitution No wonder half the country has become extremist and seditious since the last economic meltdown There’s never been a shortage of corporate welfare and handouts foe the ultra-rich though Edited March 16, 2023 by BeaverFever 1 Quote

The ole right wing carrot on the string tickle down economics that republicans are so fond of and that their voters so proudly parrot until they find themselves medically bankrupt losing their very own American dream and everything they ever worked for to medical bankruptcy because of a cancer diagnosis and a shitty employer based healthcare system.
