Here’s a list of US Universities, ranked by the number of Nobel prize winners. 
The best that the loser state of Florida has is 45th place, the University of Miami, with a measly seven Nobel prize winners. 
 

Which goes to show you that Florida is pathetic in education, and California ROCKS.

California’s tourism industry is substantially larger than Florida’s; about $50 billion/year larger. I guess it’s the better beaches. And Hollywood. And Disneyland. And San Francisco. And Yosemite. The Golden Gate Bridge. The Wine Country. San Diego.

Many don't understand that where I live, I am 15 minutes from the beach and 2 hours by freeway from Wrightwood which has a nice ski resort called Mountain High.

But.. the beaches are the geography. People love shoreline wherever it exists… Tahiti, Scotland, Iceland, you name it. 
 

But the simple truth is that things are better in California, which has lead the world in innovation for nearly a hundred years, from creating the motion picture industry to inventing the nuclear accelerator, nuclear medicine and atomic weapons, to more than half of America’s high tech. Of course the state has its problems, but it is America’s economic powerhouse, by a long shot.

And, as the first post in this thread makes abundantly clear, California has an immensely better university system than Florida, from the socialist UC schools at Berkeley, LA, San Francisco, San Diego and Santa Barbara, to the elite private schools like CalTech and Stanford.  California’s best schools are only rivaled in academic excellence by the very best of the Ivy League schools, and Florida’s schools are nowhere near them.  It’s a simple fact.
