It's hard not to make jokes about Trump.

It's hard to take him seriously. Much of this is because of how Trump behaves.

The same might be said about Trudeau.... I'm sure Trump makes jokes about him too.

Do you want all politicians to be deadly serious all the time.

I think we should all lighten up.

I does not matter how he behaves,  it is what he represents The President of the USA, the worlds most powerful leader in the world...like him or not we still have to respect his position...and the power he has at his finger tips..

I think in the setting that Justin was in, and in front of other leaders , ya I do think he should be serious...want to joke do it in private, or make it about a neutral topic...not the worlds most powerful leader when you know if he finds out it is not going to go over well... do you think it is going to be worth pissing him off, for a joke or giving him an excuse to act out against us.. then I guess it was serious . I get it he's not very popular guy, not many like him, and in this case he has a right to be tough on those that are free loaders, after all it is the US that is picking up the slack with American tax dollars, tax dollars better spent than paying out large gobs for Europe's defense, or in our case 90 % of our defense needs... Moneys tight all over, time to pay up or get out of the NATO arrangement...it really is that easy...why is that so hard for everyone to see ?

And if a vindictive Trump imposes trade sanctions on Canada costing us more jobs because he's irritated at this?

I'm in favour of paying our share.

Because of a joke at a cocktail party?

I wouldn't blame Trudeau for that...

If he wants to hold us to our share of NATO payments... by all means.

He should hold us to that.

It doesn't take much to incite Trump. He always wants to get revenge for every little thing. He might well use the lack of military spending as an excuse. If he doesn't think Canada is holding its end of the treaty/bargain then move to expel us from NATO. We would deserve that. And maybe it would wake some people up.

If Trump makes NATO members more accountable... more power to him.

If he goes around seeking revenge for everyone who ever makes a joke about him... he's going to be seeking revenge on a lot of people.... and that's probably going to end badly.

Your one of the few Canadians that are in favor,  That being said everyone knows how easy it is to set off Trump, shit even the cleaners at Walmart know that.... and his tweets can easily effect the stock market or relations with other nations, not sure why he can not just keep his comments to himself in those circumstances...would you make an off colored joke about your boss or his wife at a company party....

Trump isn't Trudeau's boss.

Trump held a long boring press conference and annoyed some of his fellow world leaders... so they joked about it.

Not a big story.

Have you read some of his tweet wars he has had , they do have an impact. look at those tweets about china and the trade war, tell me those did not effect the stock market....It is who he is...and knowing that why poke the bear ?

World leaders can't be expected to walk around in fear of Trump's tweets...

It's better that they relax and think clearly. Humour is healthy.

Trump tells Justin to squat he is going to squat, and smile while doing it..... you can call it what ever you like .... but lets not pretend Justin is his own man in this case, or on global scale  if you will... And your right it is not a big deal to have a press conference and make the rest of the world wait until he was done....what is a big deal is getting caught making smart remarks about the worlds most powerful leader....if it is not a big deal why is it splashed all over the media, why is Biden using it in his campaign, why is everyone still talking about it...

Really? Interesting point of view.... Reveals something about your opinion of our political relationship.

Because people are bored and get excited easily.... and also because Biden is an idiot.

They do, and will continue to do so until he is impeached or thrown out of office... Justin is not in any position to be making fun of any leader, most of the other leaders are still laughing at Justins black face scandal....

I agree with you people should be able to handle humor or criticism but in Trumps case he does not handle any of that very well...just his past history should tell us that...which brings me to the question why would you want to risk those remarks for at the very best he could hope to received was a smile or two...

Because people need to be human and relax.

You can't expect everyone to tip toe around all day out of fear of a temper tantrum.... people don't function well under those circumstances.

Not our normal political relationship with the US , but this political relationship with trump as the captain of the ship, this relationship most countries are struggling with, not many use to the idea of being told what to do,. Ask Merkel what she thinks of the Donald.......... Most US presidents have ASKED or hinted at that perhaps  Canada to pick up the slack including Obama who was considered a great Canadian allied...one of Canada's favorite Presidents. Trump is not asking or hinting , he's telling....he is also telling the media what might happen if we don't do as we are told....

That was not the question, was it worth the risk ? and I don't think trump is concerned if Justin has to do a little tip toeing...or if he kept Justin waiting .

Canada can tip toe around as it likes, everybody knows what Canada is about, Canada has no friends, no allies.

Canada comes cap in hand to Trump : please save us from the Chinese.

Yeah, sure, Canada, whatever.

Like I said...

I agree that Canada should carry their share of the load with NATO. I support Trump throwing his weight around on this.... he should.

At the same time I see the cocktail party humour as part of normal banter among world leaders.... it wasn't on stage... he was among his peers in the canteen.

Every Canadian agrees, Canada should do its fair share.

Shoulda, woulda, coulda, but Canada never does.

Two faced free riders, never gonna do it, everybody knows.

Not just in America, all around the world.

He shouldn't be...

And he wasn't.

Trump took the opportunity to play it to his advantage.

Biden is an idiot if he thinks this is going to play in his favour.... which he obviously does.... and it obviously won't.
