Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell will go down as Republican heroes for locking up the SCOTUS for decades to come.

It's all about abortion with you guys, isn't it? Let the country go to hell, let half of it burn to the ground, but if there's any hope of reversing Roe v Wade it's worth it!

Btw, you're basically saying the supreme court does not actual rule on law but rules on the basis of its own personal ideological and religious beliefs. In that case, what good is the US constitution anyway?

Maybe it was aspirational in that way but it has NEVER worked out that way. All Marxist oriented governments are and have been authoritarian. And the ones in the West seem pretty authoritarian and intolerant as well.

I should have added all street gangs other than natives, which are mainly in the West, though also in northern Ontario. What are the street gangs of Hamilton made up of?
As to the causes, of course, they're partly socio-economic, partly cultural. If you were born and raised in an atmosphere of violence and corruption,k where you did anything it took to survive, and you find yourself in Canada, then it's much more likely you'll wind up being involved in crime than if you come from a more peaceful culture.

That is not what they appear to show. They show that for 1-5 years they have a significantly higher unemployment rate, the same rate from years 5-10, adn then a higher rate from 10-on. Immigrants with degrees also have a significantly higher unemployment rate than Canadian born.

When there's native street gangs in cities, that should tell you this is not an immigrant thing!

In Hamilton, there are still gangs that are Italian and Portuguese. You could say their immigrants....if you go back a few generations. The gangs hanging around in the north end are a mix of whoever they went to school with.

It should be noted that there are two different types of gangs:  street kids with little money who are just hanging out and looking for kicks...and often getting in trouble, but the gangs that are a real problem are ones who are part of organized crime and running drugs and illegal handguns. Those are the gangsters who the public rarely sees or notices, unless there's a shootout in a restaurant, mall or other public place.

I know there was a lot of variation in the crime stats depending on which province you're looking at. But, overall, crime rates drop and so does unemployment, the longer they are living here.

They're concerned with "unborn babies,".....but once they come out into the world at birth, the hell with them! Then they're at the mercy of the poor or often unwed mother who brought them into this world!

It's about protecting free speech and the right to bear arms mostly, those issues are far more important than abortion.

If reversing Roe v. Wade happens, so be it, fine by me, but that reason is far down the list of reasons for preferring Republican appointed SCOTUS judges to Democrat appointed SCOTUS judges.

I want Democrat politicians getting their speech banning and gun grabbing legislation shot down by the judiciary for as long of a stretch as possible, and the more Republican SCOTUS judges that need to be replaced for that to happen, the longer that stretch will last.

The worst impulses of Democrat politicians are more important to constrain than the worst impulses of Republican politicians. If that changes and the Republicans want to start banning speech and guns and Democrats want to start appointing judges that protect those rights, the Republicans own appointed SCOTUS nominees from before that happened will strike that nonsense down too, and then I will want Democrats to be nominating SCOTUS judges at that point.

The people shooting each other down in the streets in Ottawa and Toronto are immigrants. Every time I open the paper there's some Muslim guy being arrested for a shooting or robbery or sexual assault or a swarming at a mall.. Natives have their own cultural issues related to the reserves being uneconomical dumps with nothing to do but drink, do drugs and have sex.

It's all about where you come from and the environment you grew up in. If you come from a violent reserve there's a good chance you're going to be violent. If you come from a violent country (ie, Somalia) you're likely going to be violent.

Trump continually muses about eliminating free speech, imprisoning journalists, closing down newspapers and tv networks that criticize him, and getting rid of judges. Doesn't seem to be the guy to defend free speech.

And even Bernie Sanders says you can't seize people's guns.

Bernie has gone gun grabber too, every single one of the 2020 Dem nominees is a gun grabber. So is Trump for that matter, but the judges he has appointed are not gun grabbers, and will strike down any gun grabbing that Trump supporters that gets signed into law.

Trump does not muse about eliminating free speech, and the judges he appoints don't either. If he tried to eliminate free speech, the judges he appointed would team up with the other Republican appointed judges and strike that shit down.

This is why I prefer Republican appointed SOCTUS judges who don't believe in "hate speech" laws and "common sense" gun control being allowable under the first and second amendment, over Democrat appointed judges who do think that is a good idea.
