Bob Macadoo
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/sudbury/verdict-elliot-lake-mall-collapse-trial-1.3943318 There used to be a time you could find "professionals" liable for their negligence. It was why they made the premium they did. If it could be shown that you did not show the duty of care required and the public paid a dire price......you would pay a price of your own. Beyond personal pride it was what made sure you were diligent. With that by the wayside......can we expect more botched jobs costing more lives? You're talking about that old fashioned concept of personal responsibility. That no longer exists. People are fallible, you see, so if they err, oh well, as long as they're sorry. That should be enough. Nobody even expects politicians to be honest or keep their promises any more - even if they sign a 'contract' with the people not to raise their taxes. And if huge numbers of kids fail at school, oh well, you can't blame the teachers. If cops bust down your door and shoot you to death and it turns out they were at the wrong house - oh well. Sorry about that. If doctors cut off something they shouldn't have you certainly can't expect them to be disciplined. I mean, you practically have to go on a killing spree to lose your license. As for lawyers, lol. Forget about getting them for malpractice! Bankers screw up and we help bail them out, and then, if its really an egregious screwup, we give them a multi-million dollar payoff and they walk away free and clear. The number of screwups childrens aid societies have done is legendary, but no one is ever fired. And if an accountant screws up your taxes, well, tough noogies, you're the one who'll pay. Guest
Yet if you say the wrong word to the wrong person you can be out on your ear faster than a large group of young people can shout "outraged!". Edit> Or if you're white and your job is selling burritos in Oregon. Edited June 2, 2017 by bcsapper
Bob Macadoo
....the last bastion was engineering and that seems to be gone. Some of the items you list as malpractice are influenced by uncontrollable influence which would negate the negligence aspect (teachers dealing with snowflake parents instructing unteachables) and if ever you thought politicians were professionals......shame on you. In this OP the guy rubber stamped his evaluation because his partner had already told the mall owner everything was OK. Everything was OK b/c that is what answer was paid for. It is the definition of negligent homicide. Greed wins again and forever. Don't ever tell me private employees deserve their pay over public......this is where both private and public employees failed.....but this guy is the guilty party. bush_cheney2004
The Algo Centre Mall was a leaking time bomb that was known to owners and city officials for years. How many buckets does it take to realize that the roof and structure are toast ? Why does the blame only fall on this guy ? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Algo_Centre_Mall#Structural_problems

Bob Macadoo
They aren't paid for that technical assessment.....he was. He abdicated his public duty......the oath he took when he got that iron ring. He can do that as we malign professionalism as overpaid, overrated & overlooked why are we suprised they display the same exceptionalism........#fakenews #mexicanjudge #lyingintelligence. Not with you. You might want to start by learingn to match your verbs properly to their nouns., Try ARE there such things as Professionals anymore... Next coming from someone who can't handle more then one sentence answers before you explode or implode whatever neurological phenomena you aren't interested in an answer just others agreeing with you that you heap scorn on "professionals".. Your comments are illogical. Courts are swamped with negligence awards against professionals. Professional regulators within their own colleges' disciplinary processes can appear to be inconsistent or "doing nothing" because you read one decision you don't like. If you were regulated by a college or society your opinion would be vastly different. I'd explain to you further just how many regulatory colleges there are in Ontario but it might require another sentence. Bob Macadoo
.....not above the snide commentary.....nice. 1) I am subject to a college/society licensing committee as a professional. That's why I can comment. 2) The legal society is among the worst. Sounds like someone has had a few disciplinary hearings......still "practicing"? 3) I'm up on my profession's rulings.....again why I can comment. I guess its just "business as usual" for lawyers. What's the least trusted profession again? 4) Thank-you for keeping it under 1000 words.

You can just feel it everywhere these days can’t you? That feeling of purposelessness is everywhere. Meaningless activities abound and people across the board are feeling it. Nobody gives a shit anymore. You can see it in the quality of products, the service you get at about any business anymore. The cleanliness that is lacking in more and more places. You can feel it as you look into the eyes of many of the people working these low paying, meaningless jobs. Anger lies beneath a thin veneer everywhere. Add in a prime minister whose life work is buttering up people to grease the skids for extracting whatever it is he wants from them, then leaving them behind like discarded trash, and people are starting to realize they are just marks in this whole game of hustling. People won’t change their habits easily. But maybe this will all come down because nobody cares anymore. Nobody is willing to show up to the shit job anymore to be treated like shit while being paid like shit. I don’t know the future, but it sure feels like it’s going to get crappy quite soon.
