Boges Posted December 1, 2016 Report Posted December 1, 2016 Sure the MLS is a 3rd rate Soccer League. But it's the best league in North America and next Saturday the MLS Cup will be hosted in Toronto's BMO Field. http://www.cbc.ca/sports/soccer/mls/toronto-fc-will-play-for-mls-title-after-extra-time-win-over-montreal-1.3875449 Quote In its 10th season, Toronto FC is one game away from celebrating the MLS championship. Prior to 2014, Toronto scored double-digit wins in a season just once in seven years. The front office was expert mostly in rolling back ticket prices to try to retain once-loyal fans. There was a revolving door policy to players, coaches and philosophy. But Wednesday night at BMO Field in Toronto wiped out much of that misery. Greg Vanney's team got to the championship game against Seattle in a where's-the-Gravol, roller-coaster ride of an Eastern Conference final against the Montreal Impact. Substitutes Benoit Cheyrou and Tosaint Ricketts scored two minutes apart in extra time to send Toronto to the MLS Cup final with a 5-2 win on the night and a 7-5 aggregate victory over the Impact. "One of our messages was there was no way, no chance, no how we were going to be out-competed tonight in front of our fans in our stadium," said Vanney. "And we were going to run hard and we were going to run through everything that we had to make sure that those margins turned in our favour." They were an embarrassment for much of their 10 years in the league. They have a loyal fan base and the popularity of the team begat a team in Vancouver and Montreal. The 2-leg semi-final against Montreal was classic. Toronto went down 3-nil last week in the Big O before salvaging the game with 2 goals. In the rain last night they went into extra time with a 5-5 aggregate score. Their star player Sebastian Giovinco go injured in Extra Time, and 90 second later his replacement scored the go-ahead goal. It was really exciting. Are we, as Canadians excited about this? Or Eff Toronto!!!? Quote
Guest Posted December 3, 2016 Report Posted December 3, 2016 I love soccer, but because I have such access to the EPL and other European leagues and tournaments I don't follow the North American game that much. If I still lived in the Lower Mainland I would have a season ticket to the Whitecaps, though. I'll definitely watch this final if I can. Quote
-TSS- Posted February 19, 2017 Report Posted February 19, 2017 Americans are used to the idea that they have the best professional sports leagues in the world; basketball, hockey, baseball. However as this is clearly not the case with soccer they don't care about the league. Quote
Boges Posted October 23, 2017 Author Report Posted October 23, 2017 Best regular season in MLS history. Quote

I keep rooting for the Whitecaps, but like the Vancouver Canucks and the BC Lions, they always let me down. I think that we are what they call just a bush league town. They cannot seem to win the big prize no matter how hard they try. Portland beat them last night. I am beginning to believe that Vancouver is not really a sports town. They have their fans but I wonder why? Even I have given up on any chance of any of those three teams ever making it to the final game for the big prize in the near future. Aw well. Quote
-TSS- Posted October 29, 2017 Report Posted October 29, 2017 Too bad that the USA didn't make it to the world cup. Their only time in four years they take interest in soccer. Quote
Boges Posted December 9, 2017 Author Report Posted December 9, 2017 They just won the MLS Cup. This makes them the best team in the history of the MLS. 1 Quote
