Along with investigating disparaging team names perhaps we should also focus on the violence in sport - football for example.

How often have we heard those blood curding cheers like: "fight team fight", knock them on their assets", "Knock ‘em down, Roll ‘em around
Come on defense work, WORK!", or even, "Fire it up, take control, domination, that's our goal!"

I remember many, many years ago during interfaculty games at my University, ihe English scholars college was cheering on their team repeating the following:

"Harass them,

Harass them,

Make them relinquish the ball!!"

The referees started to laugh so hard that they missed most of touchdown play. ;)

Note - For those expecting a response from Big Guy: I generally do not read or respond to posts longer then 300 words nor to parsed comments.

Maybe sports aren't for you if violent imagery offends you. Football uses military wording all the time.

I had assumed that the premise was so ridiculous that no one would take it seriously. Violent imagery does not offend or upset me - a Blue Jay loss of 6 to 3 in late innings upsets me.

I'm actually shocked people haven't gone after Rebel as a nickname because of its association with the confederacy. The New Yankees are the equivalent but on the right side of history.

I had heard of a joke petition make Ole Miss's mascot Admiral Akbar from Star Wars instead of a Civil War era officer.
