angrypenguin Posted October 7, 2015 Report Posted October 7, 2015 http://saskatoon.ctvnews.ca/video?clipId=68596 I've never seen him so charged up. Enough Harper bashing on this board. I'm pleasantly happy right now Quote My views are my own and not those of my employer.
Shady Posted October 7, 2015 Report Posted October 7, 2015 He's really rounded into form at the perfect time. I still can't believe that Justin thinks that small businesses are just tax shelters and tax dodgers. That's such a moronic statement it should automatically disqualify one from being PM, forever. I agree, although I'm sure I'm going to be bashed into the corner for being an idiot for supporting Harper. I'm watching this waiting for Harper's tax break announcement. Apparently that's coming soon? Maybe I missed it. I've never seen Harper so charged up though. Warms me to my core. angrypenguin Posted October 7, 2015 Author Report Posted October 7, 2015 (edited) Dammit I missed it. What was the tax info? Or did I pick up wrong info again. Edited October 7, 2015 by angrypenguin Quote My views are my own and not those of my employer.

Oh. There's an accountant on MLW (his name escapes me) who's confirmed that a lot of small businesses are primarily tax shelters. ReeferMadness Posted October 7, 2015 Report Posted October 7, 2015 (edited) Source? Look, i've said this before and i'll say it again. I am, as a right winger, open to thoughts. From the Financial Post Various academic and think tank studies have found that reductions in the small business tax rate disproportionately benefit wealthy individuals who incorporate their businesses in order to reduce their personal income tax burden, split income with family “shareholders” and avoid capital gains taxes. In a 2011 paper for the University of Calgary’s School of Public Policy, economists Jack Mintz and Duanjie Chen concluded that reducing the small business tax rate actually discourages the growth of companies and, therefore, of job creation. Among other problems, they wrote: “Many small businesses are created to enable individuals to reduce personal tax rather than grow companies … With corporate organization, it is easier to split income among family members holding shares of a corporation.” A lot of small businesses are just professionals who incorporate to save on taxes. Trudeau is right and if we had any kind of media in this country, Harper and his crew would be called out for the dishonest way he attacked Trudeau. We had a discussion on this called Tax Fairness in Canada. There is a poster by the name of msj who is an accountant and confirms that a lot of people (including him) are using corporations as tax dodges. ReeferMadness Posted October 7, 2015 Report Posted October 7, 2015 Not everyone in Saskatoon loves Harper. waldo Posted October 7, 2015 Report Posted October 7, 2015 Not everyone in Saskatoon loves Harper. I thought SK was 'in the bag' for Harper Conservatives! Why the need to go there in the last throes of a campaign? Is there a problem? Quote
angrypenguin Posted October 7, 2015 Author Report Posted October 7, 2015 I thought SK was 'in the bag' for Harper Conservatives! Why the need to go there in the last throes of a campaign? Is there a problem? Why does any politician campaign? Quote My views are my own and not those of my employer.
waldo Posted October 7, 2015 Report Posted October 7, 2015 Why does any politician campaign? you thought it so significant that it warranted its own thread? Will you be creating new threads for each Harper campaign stop over the next 2 weeks? so Harper is in Saskatoon... let's examine: all 3 Saskatoon ridings are a result of the 2013 seat redistribution order; 2011 election results for the prior 'effective' equivalent ridings (that included rural presence) were all held by Conservatives. The redistribution results in an effective urbanization of Saskatoon ridings... with only 1 Conservative incumbent in the mix. One of those new redistributed ridings has a most significant First Nations voter percentage; another includes a university with progressive youngin's. Like I said, is there a problem that would draw out a Harper visit during the final stages of the campaign? Quote

dialamah Posted October 7, 2015 Report Posted October 7, 2015 Trudeau also said that the small business owners who weren't using it as a tax dodge deserved support, including tax breaks, but that tax loopholes that favored the wealthy needed to be addressed. Funny how his support for small business is never mentioned, it's always presented as if he called all small business owners crooks, full stop. Anyway, people do use small business as tax dodge, it's pretty common, even among the not so rich. Quote
