Things keep changing in the Middle East and every once in a while we should evaluate our presence there:

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-34196438

The latest is that Nusra has taken another city in Syria. Whether that is good news or bad news is up to you.

So the latest:

Russia is providing arms to Assad. Canada is bombing Assad's enemies (ISIS) in Syria. Nusra is an arm of Al Qaeda - our sworn terrorist enemy - but Nusra is bombing Assad, the same guys we are protecting by bombing their enemies. The Kurds are the only folks (besides Iran) who are providing ground troops against ISIS who are our enemies. Turkey is our ally because they are now allowing coalition airplanes to refuel in Turkey. But Turkey is also bombing the Kurds because the Kurds want independence from Turkey and a big piece of Iraq.

Meanwhile, the Iraqi troops (what few are left and are supposed to be fighting this war) are doing something somewhere and we have Canadians in there training them about war - the same way we did in Afghanistan.

Some of the folks in this fight have uniforms and some do not. Hundreds of thousands of refugees now homeless and are flowing out of the region and into Europe. Now in Iraq ....

Oh well, rather than trying to update what is happening I will refer the reader to these 27 maps that simplify what and where is happening:

http://www.vox.com/a/maps-explain-crisis-iraq

So that is the state of the chaotic fiasco that we have helped cause and we are still there.

We are being played like a fine, fine fiddle.

We are being played like a fine, fine fiddle.

Your giving them way more credit then they deserve. To think they even have a feint idea that they know what their doing is funny.

They don't have a plan.

They just do whatever seems to gain the most support at that moment.

An update - Turkey is now bombing Kurd positions in Iraq. Turkey is a good guy and our friend because they allow our coalition to use their bases against ISIS. The Kurds are our good friends because they are the only ground troops (besides Iran) fighting ISIS. By the way, Canadians are dropping bombs on ISIS both in Syria and Iraq if/when we can find them.

http://www.aljazeera.com/news/2015/09/turkey-air-strikes-kill-scores-kurdish-rebels-150919160959678.html

Russia is sending more aircraft into Syria because Syria is an ally of Russia, is a sovereign nation and Russia has a military base there. Canadians and others in the coalition are dropping bombs on parts of Syria. Nobody from Syria has asked for help so we are bombing a nation because ... well just because "it is the right thing to do" according to our leadership.

* HINT - Any time you hear anybody explaining their actions as "It is the right thing to do" then quickly translate it to - I HAVE NO REASONABLE EXPLANATION.

So at this point in this fiasco, ISIS with about 40,000 troops has no nuclear weapons, no large armaments, no airplanes, no tanks, no ships and no missiles. Our coalition has the USA with the biggest, greatest, most expensive, most technologically advanced, most powerful (just ask any American), largest and most modern air force in the world (with lots of nuclear capability), all kinds of chemical weapon capability and all kinds of armaments to deliver those killing devices - OH, and Canada and our airplanes - and the coalition is losing this war.

Does anyone but me wonder just what is going on?

We are being played like a fine, fine fiddle!

I simply don't care. I want small tactical nuclear arms being used in the area. Thats what I'm hoping for.

Why do you care about it though? Seriously. Why? What does it have to do with you? Maybe I don't understand. If it bothers you just ignore it. Let them all kill each other.

It's a desperate situation. I don't know what the answer is. It's sad that some Muslims are so desperate that they'd suicide bomb. At the same time this is not an acceptable way to show disprove. They must be held responsible.

Israel must act in good faith as well which I think they could do a better job of at timed. Israel does get a lot of unfair press. The media is on the perceived victims side atm. The Arab side.

It's a mess. The west should not have gotten involved. Support Israel? Yes but war with countries in the ME? NO!

Let Israel handle security for the west on that area. We must stay out of the racial holy war at all costs.

They've already been used. Bunker busters and the area is littered with DU rounds from aircraft like the A-10

Looks like just a matter of time before Afghanistan is back into Taliban control:

http://www.aljazeera.com/news/2015/09/taliban-fighters-hoist-flag-afghan-city-150928123134732.html

Why? Maybe because the population is not too crazy about their government being set up by the West.

"Moein Marastial, a former parliament member from Kunduz, told Al Jazeera that a university in Kunduz has also been taken over by the Taliban. He also said the Taliban has gained the support of Kunduz residents, who were unhappy about local government corruption."

Anybody still feel the Canadian "blood and treasure" spent on Afghanistan was worth the effort?

Well, if Canadians feel less certain about going off to war again as a result of our failure and waste of time in Afghanistan then yes, going there was worth the effort. The path to enlightenment being painful and all.

I said now watch what you say they'll be calling you a radical,
a liberal, oh fanatical criminal
