Topaz Posted June 25, 2015 Report Posted June 25, 2015 The feds have accused the 23 yr being a ISIS supporter, which he denies and his lawyer said that the feds have no case against him because they haven't charge him with any. The lawyer said last night , on CBC, that it was his personal view and is within Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedom Act. I could be wrong on this but now that Bill C-51 has passed, Canadians can be charged saying things against the government or spreading hate, deem by the feds and they are monitoring social media, this here. Thoughts? http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/aaron-driver-defends-isis-attack-on-parliament-but-denies-he-s-a-threat-1.3124815 Quote
bush_cheney2004 Posted June 25, 2015 Report Posted June 25, 2015 (edited) All this guy did was say exactly what a member of this forum stated for terrorist attacks in the United States, along the lines of "they had it coming to them...they deserved it". This is protected speech and freedom of expression, except in a police state. Is Canada a police state ? Edited June 25, 2015 by bush_cheney2004 Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
eyeball Posted June 25, 2015 Report Posted June 25, 2015 We're trying but it doesn't come that naturally. In any case if this is the sort of thing the state is monitoring for it's probably fair to say half of us have been investigated to some degree by now. Harper can still bite me. If that causes some CSIS spook some gas....good. Quote A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.
bush_cheney2004 Posted June 25, 2015 Report Posted June 25, 2015 We're trying but it doesn't come that naturally. It does when it comes to radio and television broadcasting ( CRTC/ CBC). Why isn't somebody standing up for this guy's rights ? No marches ? No protests ? Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
eyeball Posted June 25, 2015 Report Posted June 25, 2015 He's got the Charter and SCC so what is there to worry about? And no one's forcing anyone to watch the CBC. Quote A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.
Topaz Posted June 25, 2015 Author Report Posted June 25, 2015 His lawyer, who commented that he was Jewish, himself, said he guilty wasn't guilty of anything and apparently, he said all this BEFORE Bill C-51 was passed, not sure now if someone could get away with it now, that's why Harper needs to go, HE'S the problem with the Conservatives! OK...so more complaints about state controlled and mismanaged fisheries, right ? Everything is fine ! Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

bush_cheney2004 Posted June 25, 2015 Report Posted June 25, 2015 Wrong already. Always wrong in the Canadian police state...what a country ! Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
Mighty AC Posted June 25, 2015 Report Posted June 25, 2015 I think the important thing is for headlines to be made over detaining potential terrorists, even if they are later quietly released. How do we keep a minuscule threat relevant otherwise? Topaz Posted June 25, 2015 Author Report Posted June 25, 2015 So IF Driver wasn't a 23 year old male, but a 80 year old man or woman, expressing their views, would the feds haul them in and serve them with probable terrorist?? Quote
