McKay can read polls like everyone else. EKOS has the Conservatives at 17% support in Atlantic Canada, which likely means the loss of many seats. A friend in the polling business claims this 17% figure is in free-fall.

The description of rats fleeing the floundering ship is apt. With Baird, Flaherty and now McKay history, the Tory front bench consists of wannabe lightweights.

If Harper plays his cards perfectly he can still win. The odds are in his favour with the left split.

Do you mean the NDP and green?

When I last checked, Justin was voting with Harper on key issues creating a split on the right.

Maple Leaf Web is now worth $720.00! Down over $1,500 in less than one year! Total fail of the moderation on this site! That reminds me, never ask Greg to be a business partner! NEVER!

I don't believe the general majority of the population follows the shiny pony's voting habits in parliament. He will still be viewed leftist.

That would be a great idea, but I doubt he has the ability to execute it. Would definitely hand over the victory to Tom

I see that, but I'm not sold on it yet, Harper has been so resilient in the past.

Do You think it is part of a strategy JT and TM are trying to manoeuvre together? As unlikely as that is, it would be extremely exciting. Well as exciting as politics get.

Basically, intentionally sink the Liberal ship by sailing it straight right, crashing the whole thing into Harper. ?

What this says IMO is that Harper isn't going anywhere any time soon as CPC leader. MacKay would be one of the contenders to replace Harper. Maybe he sees no path to CPC leadership in the foreseeable future? Maybe we'll see the man run for office again when a path to being PM presents itself?

Big loss for the party, though not much of a loss in my opinion, good riddance. David Orchard sends his regards!

Maybe we'll see a division of the right with all of these MPs leaving and starting their own party.

Unlikely. They're probably just securing their pensions. We won't see them back.

We won't see them back.

Same could be said about a prominent cabinet minister losing their own seat in an election.

Faced with an uphill battle only getting steeper in getting re elected, retirement looks pretty good!

Ya right. A guy like MacKay - who could have made two or three times as much money as a top-flight lawyer......or Baird - who would similarly have made loads more in the private world......both of whom stand to make much more than their parliamentary salaries for many years yet.....ya sure - they did it to lock in their pensions. Give yourself a shake. Now Mac Harb on the other hand - he really DID "retire" to lock in his pension - because if he is found guilty of fraud - he most certainly would have forfeited his pension - but the slippery little devil has now locked it in.

Y'all have the far right, the tea partyiers, in your tent. Without them there'd be no Conservative party at all.

You really are such inclusive folk. And Harper is the perfect PM for y'all.

Where are they? Who are they? I've never met one.

They're the ones who tell us that USA war crimes are fine because others have committed war crimes. They're the ones who blindly ignore USA terrorism. The ones who say they enthusiastically would work in a Nazi concentration/death camp to keep bread on the table. The ones who ... .

I see, so its only a Liberal who would do this to lock in his pension. Conservatives have a much higher calling. Tsk, Tsk.

I've never met anyone within the CPC who fits that description.

Just sayin' - and quite frankly, I don't care that he happens to be a Liberal - perhaps you can find another culprit but as far as I'm aware, Harb is the only one who "retired" when facing criminal charges - and it's probably not a coincidence that his actions locked in his pension.

Oh its certainly not hard to find another culprit within Harpers band of merry men. Lets see, ever heard of Dean Del Mastro....

Anyway, I wouldn't be surprised to see other long-term MPs leave. Denis Coderre already jumped shipped to be mayor of Montreal.

The Conservatives, besides Mackay and Baird have also lost Shelley Glover, whip Gordon O'Connor, and Diane Ablonczy.

Never fear though, the obsequious sycophants like Chris Alexandre and Pierre Poilievre are still hanging out with team Blue.

Hey now, don't forget to include Calandra under that heading.

Exactly.......For example, John Baird in just a few months has since been named to the Boards of Directors of CP rail......I expect Mackay, near 50, to spend a few years with his young family and then to be the next Secretary General of NATO, a first for a North American.

I agree but only if MacKay signs a letter that promises that if he becomes Secretary General of NATO that he will never get involved in negotiations with Russia to allow Russia into NATO. ^_^

One of the journalist on CBC said McKay had been seen coming out of Mulroney's law office but I think he'll might consider when the time comes running for Premier when the time comes.

There's a plan in the works to re-awaken the Progressive Conservatives.

And they have the gal to try and stop prostitution. What hypocrisy!
