Rue Posted April 19, 2015 Report Posted April 19, 2015 (edited) Bush you have a point. I am Pollyanna about grunts. Totally. I know in this day and age contractors are a fact. Blackwater is my problem, not other contractors and for that matter not all of Blackwater. I also totally respect Derek's responses on this forum more than most particularly on this issue. Bush I am going down in July to New York to honour a street being named after a soldier who came back from Iraq. He is a family friend. He comes from a military family. The day they blew up the towers he did not die and joined because he survived covered in that soot. His mother called in sick that day or she would have died. He paid his dues. I make no bones about my prejudice for soldiers like him. It reminds me of an issue in my younger days as well in Israel.I will leave it at that as to why I do not respect mercenaries. As for the person who took that shot at Canadian soldiers, we did have a sordid episode in Somalia with a few bad soldiers yes, but if you are suggesting Canadian soldiers are not well trained and are a bunch of gung ho macho warriors you are dead wrong. You do not know these soldiers and why they come home with pstd. You are dead wrong. Canadian soldiers like their American and British and other allies counterparts had to see certain things and do certain things. Don't be too quick to judge. They are good people. Don't try stereotype them as jug heads. That is b.s.They are just ordinary people asked to do extra-ordinary things and for the most part they do with dignity and dedication. Trust me you can not carry the visions they bring back in their heads. Don't assume to understand why they did and do what they do. Edited April 19, 2015 by Rue Quote
GostHacked Posted April 20, 2015 Report Posted April 20, 2015 My hate on is not for Prince or for the concept of specialized training for specific specialized needs falling outside conventional military training. This is a very good point. When private contractors make up a good portion of the overall force numbers (not counted as combat troops) one has to wonder what need is there for a military then. War is profitable and good for business. Quote
bush_cheney2004 Posted April 20, 2015 Report Posted April 20, 2015 ...Trust me you can not carry the visions they bring back in their heads. Don't assume to understand why they did and do what they do. Don't assume that you know either. I don't care what you think about Blackwater or "mercenaries" in general...these people serve for many different reasons...good and bad....but they still serve. It's a volunteer force with everybody getting paid. The Israelis have nothing on any of them.....join the club. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

Rue Posted April 20, 2015 Report Posted April 20, 2015 (edited) Only the one's I personally know Bush-yer pt about not blackballing them all is valid. But I have a hate on which I will not discuss further for other reasons and leave it at that. However I do think it was wrong to have flooded Iraq with a private mercenary army being paid far more than the conventional army and allowing them to operate outside of any laws which they did. They did not follow military law. You want to operate outside military law, as they did its no different than the terrorists. You either follow laws or you do not. Breaking the law to supposedly go after those who break the law is fundamentally flawed. Also I would argue Blackwater bloated itself on corrupt contracts due to Haliburton's connections and unlimited access to Pentagon contracts. Edited April 20, 2015 by Rue Quote
