A co-worker of mine showed me and about 15 other people this video at our coffee break today. We had a conversation about Monsanto and the things they have done, One of my co-workers suggested they might be one of the most evil companies to ever exist and almost instantly we all agreed with that statement. When 15 people that represent almost every political stripe available in this country can agree that Monsanto is evil, all I can say is, at least we can all agree on something.

“Be like water making its way through cracks. Do not be assertive, but adjust to the object, and you shall find your way around or through it. If nothing within you stays rigid, outward things will disclose themselves. Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle. You put it into a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.”

The is nothing that illustrates how environmentalism has turned into an brain dead cult than watching the bizarre tactics environmentalists resort to in order to create strawmen and the pathetic followers who lap up the illogical premises as if represented something other than a silly cartoon.

Would you drink it?

Would you drink it?

Would you drink a cup of iron? How about a cup of blood? There is a long list of things which are harmless or beneficial that no sane person would drink a cup of it at once. The entire setup is ridiculous and tells us nothing useful about the safety of the substance in question. The fact that you think it tells you something simply shows how irrational your own opinions are. Edited by TimG

Are you saying Glyphosate is harmless and beneficial for humans? He literally said "you can drink a whole quart of it and it won't hurt you." The fact that he refuses to back up his statement by doing the exact thing he said is safe should easily verify that Monsanto is full of shit about their own products. If anyone else wants to attempt to back up his statement, I invite you to drink "a whole quart of it" and please share your results with the forum.

Oh lighten up.

I'm thinking that's a "no" on drinking the Roundup, eh?

He literally said "you can drink a whole quart of it and it won't hurt you."

Did he qualify what concentration he was talking about? If he said 100% formulation then the guy was shooting his mouth off. Drinking that quantity of a pesticide will make you ill. If he was talking about a typical 1% formulation then he is likely right. If you want some facts instead of propaganda stunts you can look here:

Would you drink a quart of of blood? What no? We should ban blood then because it is obviously toxic...
Posted (edited)

So why did he make his phony claim then..

Whether it was phony or not depends on the concentration he was thinking of. What concentration was he thinking of when he made the claim?

Also, why should this guy trust that the drink was not spiked with something that would make him sick? Environmentalists are generally not a trustworthy bunch and anyone in his position would be stupid to accept a drink prepared by them.

It's funny you say that because this article talks about how drinking too much blood can be bad for you because of it's iron content. Not sure about the validity, it's just funny.

Don't you ever get tired making excuses for pure evil?

Monsanto Man got caught stepping in his own bullshit, plain and simple! He said:"you can drink a whole quart of it and it won't hurt you." He just wasn't expecting to be confronted with the opportunity to put up or shut up.

Forty years ago, when Monsanto introduced Roundup, the FDA testing was limited to cancer risks, and in recent years, the FDA like the rest of the U.S. regulating agencies have been turned into toothless tigers, who have their jobs threatened by bought-and-paid-for politicians, if they come down too hard on their paymasters...like Monsanto.

Glyphosate, and other...what were believed to be inert chemicals in Roundup, are being connected with many long term health problems on the increase, as well as environmental effects on soil microbes.

Glyphosate’s Suppression of Cytochrome P450 Enzymes and Amino Acid Biosynthesis by the Gut Microbiome: Pathways to Modern Diseases
Abstract: Glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup®, is the most popular herbicide used worldwide. The industry asserts it is minimally toxic to humans, but here we argue otherwise. Residues are found in the main foods of the Western diet, comprised primarily of sugar, corn, soy and wheat. Glyphosate's inhibition of cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes is an overlooked component of its toxicity to mammals. CYP enzymes play crucial roles in biology, one of which is to detoxify xenobiotics. Thus, glyphosate enhances the damaging effects of other food borne chemical residues and environmental toxins. Negative impact on the body is insidious and manifests slowly over time as inflammation damages cellular systems throughout the body. Here, we show how interference with CYP enzymes acts synergistically with disruption of the biosynthesis of aromatic amino acids by gut bacteria, as well as impairment in serum sulfate transport. Consequences are most of the diseases and conditions associated with a Western diet, which include gastrointestinal disorders, obesity, diabetes, heart disease, depression, autism, infertility, cancer and Alzheimer’s disease. We explain the documented effects of glyphosate and its ability to induce disease, and we show that glyphosate is the “textbook example” of exogenous semiotic entropy: the disruption of homeostasis by environmental toxins.

Why Glyphosate Should Be Banned – A Review of its Hazards to Health and the Environment

That was Patrick Moore. I didn't recognise him at first, until I saw it on CBC.

Agree on the lawns. But then, I'd ban golf courses too.

Wasn't Round-up produced to make farmer's life a little easier and then graduated to lawn care and homeowners? There are other methods to control weeds and grasses but people are becoming too lazy to perform them.

As I mentioned above he did not say what concentration he was talking about. Also, the guy would have to be an idiot to trust the glass was not laced with something guaranteed to make him puke since he was confronted with a couple of religious nuts trying to stage a propoganda stunt.

A paper that does not pass the basic tests to determine if it has any credibility:

http://www.sci-phy.com/detecting-bogus-scientific-journals/

Following on a previous post discussing how bogus magazines pretending to be scientific journals can affect the judgement of non-specialists, a brief 5 steps method to pin-point dubious publications is described.

...

This article is attributing pretty much all the chronic diseases of the modern world to a single agent, glyphosate. Wouldn’t it be fantastic if just by getting rid of one chemical we could be as healthy and happy as we have never been? A single agent! If this were true, it would go straight into Nature Magazine and the scientific world would have gone mad before you could even notice the article.

...

Glyphosate responsible for obesity, really? Not potato-coachness; not over eating; not driving instead of walking 100 metres: glyphosate. Similar questions should be asked for all the other diseases. It is also important to mention that glyphosate was invented years after there was already obese people and people with cancer and people with heart disease, etc.

This is just another example of environmentalists inventing villains because that is their doomsday cult requires them to do.

I am not saying we don't need to have a rational discussion of cost/benefit whenever a substance designed to kill things is used, however, environmentalists can't handle nuance. Something is either "toxic" and must be completely banned or "safe" and can be used anywhere. The kind of black and white thinking helps no one and can often cause more harm that the alleged dangers.

So you drink up that quart and get back to us. Then maybe you may be taken seriously.

A excellent example of how environmentalist are idiots driven by sound bites who are incapable of having a rational discussion on a complex topic.

A few years back I was out on the motor bike with a friend driving around the Ottawa area. We came across a small plot with about 50 new test plants, new soy, corn, and a few others. I recorded the codes on the signs with a camera then went to check them out online. Several strains were hybrids of two GMO strains.

Also with checking the information, recall the growth hormone in cows that caused issues? Now that stuff is simply genetically modified into the feed. Part of that feed contains a genetically modified form of the bacteria that causes Mad Cow Disease. That information is right in the Dekalb PDF files you can get from their site.
