Big Guy Posted August 16, 2014 Report Posted August 16, 2014 I have been noticing more and more coverage of what I thought was a fringe sport. It seems to be getting more and more popular. Has anyone on here tried it? Is this the next surfboard? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4Bm3cs9TFo Quote Note - For those expecting a response from Big Guy: I generally do not read or respond to posts longer then 300 words nor to parsed comments.
Wilber Posted August 16, 2014 Report Posted August 16, 2014 Looks like fun but not the next surfboard. To much equipment involved and you need someone to run the jet ski while you do it. Water skiing would be a better comparison. Wouldn't be surprised if someone figures out how to make it a competitive sport though. Quote "Never trust a man who has not a single redeeming vice". WSC
-1=e^ipi Posted August 17, 2014 Report Posted August 17, 2014 Seems like some people have more money than they know what to do with. Think of the energy footprint of this sport compared to surf boarding. Quote
eyeball Posted August 17, 2014 Report Posted August 17, 2014 (edited) It looks like a rather pricy sport. I bet it's only a matter of time before we see them used alongside cetaceans in marine-lands. They wouldn't need seadoos I would think, they could have the pump outside the pool/tank. Think of the energy footprint of this sport compared to surf boarding. Not to mention that you have a much better chance of supporting the local Great White population while surfing. I love those Sharks, magnificent animals, not much fun to play with though. Quote I yam what I yam - Popeye

Think of the energy footprint of this sport compared to surf boarding. I doubt it's worse than water-skiing on either the money or the energy front. Waterskiing tow boats are absurdly expensive. Boats in general are absurdly expensive. I went to a boat show this spring and was utterly floored at the price of the boats on display. Like high 5 figures at the low end, all the way up to $350,000. Insane. -k Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)
The_Squid Posted August 18, 2014 Report Posted August 18, 2014 You need a jet ski following you the entire time. That's where the propulsion comes from. Seems dumb. Quote
