The UN, what is it good for? Absolutely nothing!

Yes you are right, the Oil for Food Scam does not exist, it is only in the minds of those stupid right wingers, who invented the $50 billion fraud in their imaginations. Not one of your sources is credible, and not one of their statements makes any sense. The facts are that billions were scammed by Hussein, his family, and that France, Russia and China made upwards of $7 billion per annum in illegal monies. The UNO made $21 billion in revenues [the difference between monies taken and goods given] and this sits in French banks. Much of Hussein's money has obviously found its way into terrorist networks and is funding the current insurgency. Sources for the above include the 9-11 Commission Report, Kay Report, Duelfer Report and WSJ's Claudia Rossetta. But right, Kofi Anan is a great and moral leader who did so much in the 1990s to save Central Africans, Bosnians, Iraqi's, Jews....while his son made a cool few million from illegal deals. A real leader that Kofi. The same guy who said Hussein was a man he could do business with [literally meaning it], and that going into Falluja to safeguard innocents being murdered by terrorists would 'derange the election process.' What a joker.

These Left vs. Right demarcations are getting tedious and are besides the point. Reality is reality and facts are facts.

The UNO is a mockery. Another study confirms that the UNO is funding terror:

15 November 2004, 09:30 AM EST, Toronto, ON – The Canadian Coalition for Democracies today released a new report UNRWA: Links to terrorism (http://canadiancoalition.com/unrwa/UNRWA_TerrorReport.html). The report is written by Arlene Kushner of the Centre for Near East Policy Research (Natick MA and Jerusalem) and presents evidence linking UNRWA to Hamas terrorism against Israelis.

“The findings in this report are troubling,” said Alastair Gordon, Director of Communication, Canadian Coalition for Democracies (CCD). “It leaves little doubt that members of the terrorist group Hamas are working for UNRWA and using funds and materiel from foreign donors, including Canada, for terror against Israelis.”

The report notes that UNRWA’s camps were “riddled with small-arms factories, explosives laboratories, and suicide-bombing cells, as well as Kassam-2 rocket manufacturing plants.” It goes on to quote Alan Baker, Chief Counsel of the Israeli Foreign Ministry and new Israeli Ambassador to Canada saying “Bombing-making indoctrination, recruiting, and dispatching of suicide bombers are all centered in the camps.”

“Given the details of this report, and the fact that funding Hamas is a crime in Canada, CCD is calling on the government to deny all funding to UNRWA until we can guarantee that our tax dollars are not being used for incitement and terror against Israelis. Canada should take the lead among donor nations to demand accountability from UNRWA, and to assure that 100% of funding is used for humanitarian purposes,” said Gordon.

“Should the government accept the findings of this report and the evidence linking UNRWA to Hamas terrorism, it will be incumbent upon them to immediately cease funding UNRWA. Canada must send a strong message to the UN stating its displeasure with the abuse of Canadian tax dollars, and apologize to the people of Israel who have suffered as a result of funding Hamas terror.”

But hey these are just the ramblings of immoral fanatical Christians who eat babies and hate all immigrants. Maybe Kofi can enlighten us on the UNRWA - OR would he withhold critical documents and interviews.....as he has done with the Oil for Food Scam ????

Sorry, Boondoggle, I have had to report your post for infringement of copyrighted material. You need only provide a short quote - with an explanation of its pertinence to your argument - accompanied by a link.

As to your points:

1. US vetoes. In the past 20 years or so, the US has been the main user of vetoes. So what? The Palestinians have tried to use the UN to advance their cause - the US has stopped this. In fairness, any organization that names Libya to head its Human Rights Commission deserves scrutiny.

2. Oil for Food. I don't get your point. Even the articles you cite refer to fraud of various sorts. France, Saddam and the US are called into question. I'm not surprised in the least. A heck of alot of money was involved.

In any case, I don't quite get your argument. Are you suggesting that the UN Security Council ganged up on Saddam when it imposed sanctions? Or do you mean to say that the US manipulated the UN?

Lastly, many Americans couldn't give a tinker's cuss about the UN or what it does. I suspect that it's a fact of nature now that Americans intend to defend themselves as they see fit.

Finally I see where you get your information and "viewpoints. The Canadian Coalition of Democracies - do you expect to be taken seriously when you use a lunatic fringe group as testimony to your prejudices.

To your other points about the riches obtained from Iraq by other than American countries, it may have escaped your notice that there is nothing there that is proven: the Duelfer report, which is the current source of probable self-interested misinformation, has been denied by France particularly.

The report was made public without any reference to the accused nations and they were given ONE DAY'S notice of the conclusions.

It is just another wedge in US-European relations. What the truth is, we will have to wait and see. It is though, without the shadow of a doubt, a politically inspired calumny. The amounts you cite are an absurdity. The Iraq economy over recent years could not have produced such figures.
