monty16 Posted May 13, 2014 Report Posted May 13, 2014 (edited) http://rt.com/usa/158608-nsa-greenwald-un-snowden/ A commentary from RT news on what's to come in his soon to be released book. A rare chance of some real transparency on US foreign relations and world politics. And the interesting thing about it is that the American people are nearly completely onside with Snowden's actions in exposing it all. Also, a rare chance to feed them some politics on issues that the media has been careful to not expose them to and to which they are going to be very receptive. Well timed considering that the Ukraine and the US/Nato position on that issue is so 'in the news'! Quote from that article: Following revelations that German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s private cell phone communications were being hacked by the NSA, Germany pushed for a ‘no-spy’ agreement with the United States to restore the trust. The Obama administration, however, rejected the offer. Edited May 13, 2014 by monty16 Quote
bush_cheney2004 Posted May 13, 2014 Report Posted May 13, 2014 Gosh...such big news and revelations. No wonder President Obama and the U.S. Congress is punishing the NSA by funding construction on a nearly completed multi-BILLION dollar data collection and storage facility in Utah. That will show the NSA who is boss..... Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
Remiel Posted May 13, 2014 Report Posted May 13, 2014 Real transparency from New Pravda? Tell me another one. What a joke. Quote
Topaz Posted May 13, 2014 Report Posted May 13, 2014 Yeah, I also heard on the news that the NSA also went to software companies and put in tracking apparatus into the software of computers etc. Quote
monty16 Posted May 14, 2014 Author Report Posted May 14, 2014 Yeah, I also heard on the news that the NSA also went to software companies and put in tracking apparatus into the software of computers etc. Yup, and US electronic devices sold to other countries are first loaded up with spyware. If Snowden says this is the tip of the iceberg, and he's been proven reliable and honest so far, we have to wonder what he has on the US vis a vis Russia. In my humble opinion, Snowden was always eventually bound for Russia because the Russians turned him. Now he's Vlad's asset to be used at his discretion. Start the screaming denials in 3, 2, 1, ................. Quote
Icebound Posted May 14, 2014 Report Posted May 14, 2014 (edited) ... Now I know why my Cisco-made Rogers TV PVR has all that random disc activity. It never seemed to make sense when everything is shut down and no recording is supposed to be going on????? ..... .... Edited May 14, 2014 by Icebound Quote
eyeball Posted May 14, 2014 Report Posted May 14, 2014 Europe has announced plans to construct a new Internet network We should too, and maybe put up a few of our own global positioning satellites while we're at it. Quote A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.
Icebound Posted May 14, 2014 Report Posted May 14, 2014 Building a "new" internet is not a bad idea. Its current evolution is about that of a 1937 Chevy... maybe 1949 Oldsmobile, if you are generous. Long way to go for it to become a 2015 Lexus ....or better. We now have at least SOME experience with global communication and what is good and what is bad about it. What unintended consequences have occurred, and what unforeseen opportunities it has created. Starting from scratch to build something that has more of the good, less of the bad, and some off the wish list could be the next logical step in positive internet evolution. Quote
bush_cheney2004 Posted May 14, 2014 Report Posted May 14, 2014 A "new internet" would do little to stem the data collection and analysis mission of the NSA. They will just see it as another opportunity to expand the data warehouse. So many packets...so little time. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
eyeball Posted May 14, 2014 Report Posted May 14, 2014 I think the tone that eschewing the old internet sets would make it worth the effort. Quote A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.
