Canada's Involvement in Ukraine

Recommended Posts

Has anyone left NATO? For what reasons?

France. They voluntarily withdrew from all military aspects of NATO back in 1963 (which is why NATO HQ moved from paris to Brussels). They retain diplomatic and political/economic ties with NATO, but they do not participate in the NATO military comand and control structure.

I thought France was back in?

In general, you are correct. I should have been more accurate in my previous comment. They did opt back in in 2008, but with conditions. They still do not participate in the Nuclear Planning Group nor have they added any forces to the general NATO pool, nor do they contribute any funding to the organization. So again, yes the French participate , but in that uniquely 'French' way that we all know and love :)

I would hope that Jean-Paul Paloméros and the Armée de l'Air were informed, coupled with the deployed forces on operation Pamir and Héraklès.....

There are a lot of questions that have to be answered before mission creep gets Canada mired into another conflict – be it a civil war or whatever. These questions have to be discussed and answered by our government if and before any body bags start arriving back home.

Canadians deserve those answers.

I tend to agree with you on any direct involvement within Ukraine proper, but if the conflict expands beyond into the surrounding NATO member's territories, the inclusion of Canada into a war with the Soviets Russians was predetermined back in the spring of 1949.…

At least Chretien had the smarts to recognise US aggression with their phony Iraq war. Harper signs us on to anything that the US dreams up as a necessity. And oh what a good reason. US/Nato encroachment on Russia's borders which has been going full force since the fall of the Soviet Union!

The Russians are coming, the Russians are coming!

Soon?

Smallc, We're really supposed to still believe the Russians are coming? Really? Since the fall of the Soviet Union it's been the US a comin in over a dozen wars while Russia tried to sort out their internal problems. Revise that for us!

idea: we bombed the people from 30,000' feet to save them and then they went and deliberately stood under our bombs anyway!

We had nothing to give and all harper wanted was to say we back your efforts. Then who sent our forces to afghanistan with shitty equiptment?? And like romney said russia will bethe next problem and the dems laughed at that remark. Obama looks very weak in this one. And FYI harper has been dead on what putin is up to.

The only reason Canada is involved in Afghanistan is because Harper feels he needs to support the US's wars. Canada never did have any other reason even though we were told some time way back that it was so the little girls could go to school. Now, most of the little girls are dead because of the US led war and the country is about to revert back to Taliban rule.

When the Iraq war proved to us that it was all about US aggression in the ME, Canada should have pulled out and took it's licks the US would have handed out. It would have sped up our trade relations with other countries and provided the diversity that makes us more immune to blackmail attempts by the US.

Nothing about Bin Laden, eh? I suppose you think 9/11 was an inside job, anyways...

A 200 million dollar "loan" from the Harper government to Ukraine:

http://www.ctvnews.ca/politics/canada-announces-220m-in-aid-to-ukraine-1.1728009

There are countries far more needy than Ukraine, for example, in parts of Africa. Yet Mr. Harper chose Ukraine for this handout. Why? In 2011, there were an estimated 1,209,085 persons of Ukrainian origin residing in Canada, This means Canada has the world's third-largest Ukrainian population behind Ukraine itself and Russia.

Another example of Mr. Harper using taxpayer dollars to pursue ethnic votes.
