12 years ago in the middle of an election-campaign in the Netherlands the party-leader of a new party was murdered. Pim Fortuyn was known for his anti-islam rhetoric. He was murdered by a human excrement whose name doesn't deserve a mention.

That murderer got 18 years of sentence but now after 12 years he is being released.

I know that this must have something to do with 12/18=2/3 but it still begs the question why. He is released on condition that he may not leave the country and he may not enter the cities of the Hague and Rotterdam where Fortuyn was very active because there may be people who don't like him very much. And yes, he has to wear an electronic tag on him at all times.

Yet still, could you imagine on your side of the pond that anyone could get away with premeditated murder so lightly? 12 years for a murder, especially for political motives, is light.

This news comes handily at the same time when the Dutch media are doing their best to demonise another politician Geert Wilders who also is very critical of muslim-immigration.

First of the Dutch get to make thier own laws and sentences. According to wiki the average sentence is 12 to 15 years for killing another. No doubt many would consider that 'light' as you say. But then the Dutch government isn't beholden to what a bunch think in far distant lands.

As for Geert, I have a very low opinion of the mans beliefs and actions.

Geert does not impress me much, either.

“There is a limit to how much we can constantly say no to the political masters in Washington. All we had was Afghanistan to wave. On every other file we were offside. Eventually we came onside on Haiti, so we got another arrow in our quiver."

Why, because he wants to protect Western civilization.

Note the tense; he wanted. He is dead now because he was murdered by these "better people".

Geert is not dead. Pym is.

Agreed that the Dutch have their own judicial system. Yet at the same time in this very sub-section of this forum we have a thread about the Egyptian government sentencing over 600 people to death. Most of the comments are expressing outrage and none whatsoever are saying how Egypt has its own laws.

Double standards at work, anyone?

Parole after twelve years is a difference of opinion. 600 executions from a single mass trial is an atrocity. These situations are orders of magnitude different.

You should think twice about lauding Wilders, jbg. He is starting to show the true colours we all new were there: http://www.timesofisrael.com/is-the-honeymoon-over-for-geert-wilders-and-dutch-jews/ .

The commentary-section of the link you posted is priceless. Some North-American hippie accusing Europeans of racism. Ooh, the delicious irony!

Is that the Nora Halpert person you are referring to?

I don't like what I read but I'm still not convinced. You may yet be right though.

Perhaps many people do not consider an 18 year sentence and parole after 2/3 served outrageous
