WWWTT Posted April 16, 2014 Report Posted April 16, 2014 Ok, I threw out the challenge earlier but I'll ask everyone this time. Does anyone know of another riding association that pulled the rug out from under a sitting MP or MPP? And if not in Canada, perhaps in another parliament? This Rob Anders guy really had it coming as far as I'm concerned. And to me, it shows a lot of weakness on the part of the conservatives! WWWTT Quote Maple Leaf Web is now worth $720.00! Bryan Posted April 16, 2014 Report Posted April 16, 2014 Does anyone know of another riding association that pulled the rug out from under a sitting MP or MPP? As far as having outsiders who are not even from the party coming and hijack the process (which is what happened to Anders), yes, it's happened a few times. The ones I'm familiar with are similar: people who are NOT Conservative, who knew they would not win under their real banner, but also knew the Conservative seat would most likely win no matter what, marched in a pile of people no one in the riding had ever seen before to nominate and vote for them. I wish I could recall specifically which ridings they were, but I'm drawing a blank right now. I want to say lower mainland in BC, but my Google-fu is failing me to find it so far. I'll keep looking. Thanks Bryan, I appreciate the effort! I can't, for the life of me, think of another example of where an sitting MP or MPP had an outsider come in like this????? It's driving me freekin nuts! I want to say Sheila Copps, but I think that's something different or maybe just too long ago to remember clearly? WWWTT Quote Maple Leaf Web is now worth $720.00! Argus Posted April 17, 2014 Report Posted April 17, 2014 (edited) Ok, I threw out the challenge earlier but I'll ask everyone this time. Does anyone know of another riding association that pulled the rug out from under a sitting MP or MPP? And if not in Canada, perhaps in another parliament? This Rob Anders guy really had it coming as far as I'm concerned. And to me, it shows a lot of weakness on the part of the conservatives! A riding association is made up of its membership. If someone recruits hundreds, or even thousands of new members, then presto, the riding association no longer supports the sitting MP. That generally happens in areas where ethnic candidates bring in a bunch of their fellows to vote for them. They simply take over the riding, nominate the new guy, then most of them leave. Usually MPs are protected by the party from such things but evidently they all promised to allow open nominations this year. WWWTT Posted April 17, 2014 Report Posted April 17, 2014 Glad to see you're aware of how nomination meetings and AGM's go Argus. Can you think of any examples where an sitting MP or MPP didn't win the nomination from their riding association? For the life of me, I can't! There's got to be an example! cybercoma Posted April 17, 2014 Report Posted April 17, 2014 As far as having outsiders who are not even from the party coming and hijack the process (which is what happened to Anders) So a former cabinet minister in the Alberta Progressive Conservative provincial government gets the nomination and you blame it on outsiders hijacking the process? Ron Liepert isn't exactly a nobody outsider. He's a Conservative and well-known in provincial politics. Quote
WWWTT Posted April 28, 2014 Report Posted April 28, 2014 Ok I threw it out there a couple of weeks ago now. Has anyone heard of a sitting MP or even an MPP, lose the nomination at their riding associations nomination meeting? After doing some searches, for the life of me, I can not find/think of one single example, therefore I'm going to have to say that this is a first in Canadian history! Just goes to show how embarrassed the executive were of this Rob Anders character! Rob Anders has brought great shame to the conservatives and his constituents! And to think that conservative cabinet minister endorsed him, and Harper him very self, only goes to show what kind of riff raff the conservative party harbours! Good riddance!
