ASIP Posted March 26, 2014 Report Posted March 26, 2014 Please provide and English link to back up your claim. Or something with an English translator or try to detail how I can translate. I'm very interested in reading different perspectives! WWWTT Why do you think an English link must exist?! Get back to ground. Or ask CBC to provide information, at least, I hope, you pay their salaries. Right now, people in Ukrainian streets have more important stuff to do other than worrying about some Canadian coach potatoes. You'll never get true information from third hand sources. There is an excellent Israeli military history forum with direct discussion of this (Jews in the current Ukrainian revolution) topic. No English, though. http://waronline.org/fora/index.php?threads/%D0%9D%D0%BE%D0%B2%D0%BE%D1%81%D1%82%D0%B8-%D0%A3%D0%BA%D1%80%D0%B0%D0%B8%D0%BD%D1%8B.571/ Quote
ASIP Posted March 26, 2014 Report Posted March 26, 2014 So the former president admits it is her! But she denies the 8 million ethnic Russians being killed. Starting to look more and more that Russia was in the right here. WWWTT Starting to look you are unable to read even a headline. Ukraine's former PM confirms authenticity of leaked phone call, but says passage about ethnic Russians is a montage. The call was made, the content was falsified. Isn't that clear? The second man, Shufrich, also denied the phrase you tried to spin out. Quote

The second man, Shufrich, also denied the phrase you tried to spin out. I clearly had written that she denied making the comment, but she admits the call and conversation are real. So who's unable to read here? You have an English link for the other person denying the content? Actually don't worry about it. The former president is a convicted criminal in her own country and was just released from jail for crying out load and you're defending her like as if she was the mother saint of the Ukraine! WWWTT Posted March 26, 2014 Report Posted March 26, 2014 Except things like...oh...Putin? You most certainly do not understand that guy nor what he is doing yet you back him up. I was making reference to an Russian or Ukrainian link. As far as Putin goes, it seems he has the interest of his comrades and country first and foremost. As well, at this point, this issue has been resolved. Furthermore, the now remaining original G7 countries are actually supporting Putins' policy within his own country through the sanctions that target mostly individuals that Putin has accused of failing to keep funds within Russia. As it appears, the west is talking big and tough in western media, but in economic reality, business as usual plus lets try to help out Putin. If you are against Putin's actions, the west does not agree with you in practice! WWWTT Quote Maple Leaf Web is now worth $720.00! Down over $1,500 in less than one year! So you know what? I don't believe her, she's lying as far as I'm concerned! She's never been a President of Ukraine. She may be lying, but the problem is that there is no tape of this conversation presented. Just a digital file "leaked" in Russian media. Did anybody claimed possession of the tape? Her conviction was pure political vendetta. The deal she concluded with Russian Gasprom corporation is now under investigation. I want to recall you that in the Ukrainian parliament the deposited President party still has the largest number of MPs (216 out of 450, if my memory is OK). And this is a big brake for Ukrainian democracy. Sure she is a controversial figure, and my attitude towards her was negative three weeks ago. But what I see now, she's changed. I agree with almost everything she says. Of course, I know the difference between words and deeds. The current Ukrainian parliament is far from being inspiring, but she is definitely the brightest mind there. Quote
-TSS- Posted March 27, 2014 Report Posted March 27, 2014 You have to understand the Russians' desire to annex the Crimea against the background that Russia is such a tiny country on a very small plot of land. They are in a desperate need for some extra territory. Quote

Topaz Posted March 27, 2014 Report Posted March 27, 2014 I heard one report that if the Ukrainian Army or others, started to battle it out with Russian military that it could force Putin to allow more force and then we'd have the starting of a war through Europe, which no one wants. The people voted and they went with Russian, so what's with the G7 countries? There's a lot more going on then just Russian and the Ukraine and it going to have something to do with power in either oil or gas, it always does. Quote

GostHacked Posted March 27, 2014 Report Posted March 27, 2014 (edited) I think that nobody wants war. Especially in a fragile economic recovery! We've been told that war is actually good for the economy. It might be good for the bankers who finance the rebuilding of bombed out nations who already have an immense debt load. I suspect that the western leaders had to make a big smoke show for the typical yahoo right of center arm chair spectators ( and fish a little boost in opinion polls at home to boot) ! Now that this is resolved, it will soon be forgotten. WWWTT Our western leaders have puffed up their feathers, but nothing more. The sanctions wont work as we have a very global intertwined supply chain and integrated national and supranational entities. Slap Russia with sanctions, and you have counter sanctions. Sanctions on Russia will affect some western corporations, as Russia maybe the only supplier for that product. If those corps are big enough, they are going to raise a stink and deals will be made. Really negating the notion of sanctions against Russia. Edited March 27, 2014 by GostHacked Quote
ASIP Posted March 27, 2014 Report Posted March 27, 2014 The people voted and they went with Russian, so what's with the G7 countries? What assurance do you have that more than 35% of Crimean people voted? How many non-Ukrainian citizen voted? Who certified results of vote counting? Why the new Crimean power did not allow any international organization to monitor this so called referendum if they claim 97%? Did you know that the initial number was 123% of voter participation? Compare with the referendum about Quebec separation. Quote
-TSS- Posted March 28, 2014 Report Posted March 28, 2014 Sanctions on Russia could cause the value of the rouble to plummet, which would make some oligarchs very angry. Similarly, there will be travelling restrictions imposed on Russian travellers. All these measures can cause a lot of nuisance but will do nothing to persuade Russia to withdraw from the Crimea. overthere Posted March 28, 2014 Report Posted March 28, 2014 I don't think anyone really expects Russia will give the Crimea back. The important thing is to discourage this tactic in future. The ethnic Russians in Crimea have spoken and Putin has listened. I wonder if his hearing will be as acute the next time the Chechens have something to say? Quote Science too hard for you? guyser Posted March 28, 2014 Report Posted March 28, 2014 ... there will be travelling restrictions imposed on Russian travellers. There already is, and has been for sometime. Russians dont want to work, neither would it appear the emabsssies do! Only one way to get a visa to come to Canada, travel to Moscow and get one, but be there before 6am, since by about 10 they close and go .....do something else. My co-worker had her mom come for a visit, she had to go by train (12hrs)to Moscow to secure a Visa and then back home again. Wasnt open when she showed up..... Quote
