The_Squid
I found this quite interesting. I like the idiosyncrasies of our very long border like Point Roberts. I didn't know about Campobello Island! Although they're a little less cut off compared to Point Roberts due to a ferry route. Cool stuff. jbg
Personally when I think of Canada's "border" what comes to mnd is the border with Greenland over Davis Strait, and Hans Island.

jbg
Waited in line at the New York one lately?I was talking about the term "the border." Doesn't refer to the eastern border with Denmark? Or the border between St. John and St. Pierre & Micquelon?

The "jokes" may be funny to others with trollish tendencies ...'Manifest destiny' - the US'n border stretches to the Arctic - isn't a funny idea here. Never has been, never will be. I think there are more cultural differences between Texas and New York than between Ontario and New York, or between California and Alabama than between Alberta and Texas. The Canadian snowbirds are already in California, Arizona,Texas, Alabama, Florida, etc. etc., and won't be going home until the "cultural differences" melt. They make a run for the border each year. jbg
Ask 'em if they want to stay there. I've had some great summer visits to Quintes Isle, Quebec City and Algonquin (other times of year for other places). I love Canada but didn't want to stay there. bush_cheney2004
This CanAm border thing is fascinating....my working theory is that the U.S. border...physically, culturally, and economically is far more omnipresent to many Canadians for a variety of reasons. Yes...there are border communities that thrive with/for each other, but on a national scale, Canadians are keenly aware of...the border. It is a real boundary to be overcome for access to things that "they" have, while keeping the hegemon at bay.
On Guard for Thee
Ask 'em if they want to stay there. . They don't want to stay there after the weather warms back home. Otherwise they would have to try and sort out the current scary maze of healthcare.

Yes, and whenever they get tired of waiting for something that they can't get in Canada, they make another run for the border. The border...it is the passage to what is missing back home. To the border...Mildred !
