I don't see the conspiracy... I like how you can see a conspiracy here, but when it came to Duffy and the PMO, everything was A-OK... LOL Quote

bleeding heart Posted February 19, 2014 Report Posted February 19, 2014 Why don't you support the troops? PIK Posted February 19, 2014 Author Report Posted February 19, 2014 I do, just not generals that feel they are special Quote Toronto, like a roach motel in the middle of a pretty living room.
bleeding heart Posted February 19, 2014 Report Posted February 19, 2014 I was just joking anyway. Ignore my remark and carry on. The_Squid Posted February 19, 2014 Report Posted February 19, 2014 So why hasn't this government changed this perk that they were told about by the AG in 2006? It's not the general's fault that he is entitled to a paid move... the government has known about this and has done nothing. That's incompetence. That's like saying that the general gets a generous salary so he should be giving a bunch of his paycheck back to the government. Whining about this is sheer partisanship. Quote
bleeding heart Posted February 19, 2014 Report Posted February 19, 2014 Exactly. If it's an issue, it should be seen as a non-partisan one. Though that sounds like a pipe dream, I know. When harper 1st arrived with a minority government , we had little time to breathe then to know every little thing going on. That is just plain stupid. What about 40'gs to move to the other side of the world, compared to 72 for a couple of blocks. Quote Toronto, like a roach motel in the middle of a pretty living room.

That is just plain stupid. What about 40'gs to move to the other side of the world, compared to 72 for a couple of blocks. So why didn't the gov't change it? They didn't try, your BS about a minority government not withstanding. Why didn't they set a maximum cap? They did nothing. They should change it if it is an issue, not just complain when someone they don't like plays within rules that they themselves make. Quote

It's not the general's fault that he is entitled to a paid move... the government has known about this and has done nothing. That's incompetence. I agree. On the one hand, it's reasonable for a move from where he was posted, to his 'home' but it seems unnecessary when it's in the same city. The rules should be amended, first to deny assistance with a move in the same city, and second to put a cap on fees. I'm guessing no one thought people would be buying and selling million dollar houses when this program was designed. That is just plain stupid. What about 40'gs to move to the other side of the world, compared to 72 for a couple of blocks. little time to breathe!!! C'mon PIK, this was raised in 2006... have Harper Conservatives been holding their breath since then? So they finally caught a breath in the recent week to bring this forward for criticism... and it has absolutely nothing to do with taking a partisan shot since the General has taken an adviser role, right? No, nothing at all; Harper Conservatives finally managed to catch a breath! by the by, how much different are real estate fees for a intra-city versus inter-city move? Quote
On Guard for Thee Posted February 19, 2014 Report Posted February 19, 2014 I'm sure noone is more aware of how bad he is getting beat up in the polls than Harper himself. And, try as he might, he just can't seem to lay a glove on anybody in QP. The conservatives controlled the agenda for about as long as it took the pundits to declare that the budget was yawn and it was right back to senate scandal etc., etc. They're desperate and it seems they don't mind beating up on vets. overthere Posted February 20, 2014 Report Posted February 20, 2014 Harper is flailing madly for anything he can find to try and hurt Trudeau. did he order Lelslie to move a couple of blocks and submit a claim? Nice work Steve. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!
overthere Posted February 20, 2014 Report Posted February 20, 2014 So 76,000 sould alot but as someone has already explained most of that went in realtor fees....Not many members own a milion dollar plus home so these expenditures are rare. If most of it went in realtor fees, $76k would equate to about a $20 million dollar home. I had no idea generals were required to live in homes of that quality. Quote Science too hard for you? In any case, as mentioned, it sold for ~ $1 Million Quote
waldo Posted February 20, 2014 Report Posted February 20, 2014 House sold for a million. RE fees about 50 of the total bill, so the report goes. ... per an Ottawa Citizen article: "In the interview Sunday, Leslie said he had been unaware of how much his move had cost the government. He said DND directly negotiates legal fees, real estate brokerage charges and other costs associated with resale of a home, and a private company is hired to perform the physical move." Quote
