On Guard for Thee Posted February 18, 2014 Report Posted February 18, 2014 This is because programming is not government financed and controlled. Of course, it's because it's controlled by "acme" corporation. Now shut up and eat your pablum Quote
TimG Posted February 18, 2014 Report Posted February 18, 2014 You sound like Donald Rumsfeld. Are you saying I am lying? I am telling you there have been numerous occasions where I had the context for a story and the CBC presented an extremely biased report on it by simply omitting extremely relevant details. This, for me, is pretty compelling evidence that the CBC is biased - a bias that you do not notice because they tell you what you want to hear so you don't question it. Quote

Quite the contrary, the fact they pull reps from the 3 major parties in to discuss whatever is going on of a day is why cbc is so important. Do you deny that Fox News Channel is available from many Canadian providers ? Ya know I don't spend a lot of time trying to figure out what my compatriots are watching on their tv's. For me when it comes to news I go to cbc, cnn, and bbc mostly. I also like old rerunas of Frasier. If faux news was available, I would tune in once in a while to keep abreast of whjat frightful nonsense Americans are being fed by the ACME funded and controlled channel. Having said that, I am quite enjoying "Cold War" as provided by CNN. Quote

But doing one objective presentation followed by 20 biased representations does not make the CBC unbiased. It simply means it is better than something like Fox or MSNBC when it comes to bias. I don't know what time zone you are in, but tune into pwer and politics some time, 2pm eastern time, 5 days a week. You will see a good example of what taxpayer funded, taxpayer controlled reporting is all about. And guess what, unlike faux and other US stuff, you will hear and see smart people making their points strongly, and politely. As opposes to a 3 talking heads screaming at each other so nobody can hear anything of whats going on. You may actually hear something. Quote

If it was even possible for me to "tune in" to such government financed and controlled programming, the principal experience would be one of god awful boredom. My opinion is that Canadian force fed programming is tearfully boring, and one of the reasons Canadians seek out so much more "ACME" sponsored programming from "across the border". Fox News Channel enjoys a bigger audience in Canada than the CBC has in the USA. Think about that, including the audience size differences. HNIC only goes so far...... Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

I agree with you. I admit I have a warm spot in my heart for cbc, especially radio, because of such things as "this country in the morning" "morningside" "Ideas" etc. I don't think they are perfect by any means. And they are a bit left leaning I suppose. But of course much more balanced, and in my opinion smarter than something like fnc. A nd cbc is of course not really about politics, I like the way they hold the country together, kinda like the railroad. Quote

The best defense against bias is to follow multiple sources with different biases. So CBC has its place and so does Fox and MSNBC. The more voices the better. Quote

We don't watch it anyway. Clearly Canadians do watch Fox News Channel, and lots of it. Just review how many members here are familiar with FNC programming and talking heads. Most Americans have no idea who Peter Mansbridge or what The National is, and don't care that they don't know. They do know that the late Canadian, Peter Jennings came to America to find his fortune with ABC. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

bush_cheney2004 Posted February 18, 2014 Report Posted February 18, 2014 So you are promoting American ignorance? No, I am promoting better programming and entertainment. Millions of Canadians agree, including those watching Fox News Channel. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

I agree that it's good to sample various voices. I must admit I don't often tune into msnbc, for no particular reason. I have just found fnc to be so totally biased and and scripted and obviously controlled by the board room, I signed off. It's total BS and so no wonder we don't have it on most carrieres in Canada. bush_cheney2004 Posted February 18, 2014 Report Posted February 18, 2014 (edited) In fact, as cited above, Fox News Channel is carried by a majority of Canadian cable programming providers. FNC is also available by subscription service from Sirius XM satellite radio, just like CBC Radio. Edited February 18, 2014 by bush_cheney2004 Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
TimG Posted February 18, 2014 Report Posted February 18, 2014 (edited) I have just found fnc to be so totally biased.Your problem is not with the bias but the fact that you disagree with it. That does not mean that Fox is wrong. If you don't like, don't watch it but going on an on about how biased it is while you ignore equally biased presentations from places like MSNBC makes you sound like a totalitarian that wants to prevent people from saying things you don't like. Just accept that Fox exists. It has POV and a market of people who like the POV and move on. Edited February 18, 2014 by TimG Quote
bush_cheney2004 Posted February 18, 2014 Report Posted February 18, 2014 ...Just accept that Fox exists. It has POV and a market of people who like the POV and move on. Yes, this is key....some people simply refuse to except that not only does Fox News exist, but it garners more cable news audience share than all other competitors combined. If only Fox News could be silenced, such an audience could be swayed to a different POV, or so goes the thinking (non thinking). Fox News Channel appeals to the so called opponents of "elitism" and big government, cradle-to-grave social welfare state. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

However, sure fnc and msnbc and cbc and all the rest have their views. I guess why I go "on and on" as you put it is because I know full well that cbc is in no way controlled by the government.Anybody that thinks so hasn't watched it. Amd I reallyt dislike ignorance. Have you listened to Q recently? The host constantly engaging in leftist diatribes on air. Quote
