bush_cheney2004 Posted December 13, 2013 Report Posted December 13, 2013 (edited) ....if thatcher is going to say she is against apartheid, but do what she can to protect and enable the apartheid regime to continue what it's doing, then her comments about apartheid have no meaning and she is a hypocrite. If that be the measure of anti-apartheid "hypocrisy", then Canada and successive governments had it in spades. Reserve system model, Trudeau's ambivalent policies, Space Research and the GC-45 based G5 howitzer, Gerald Bull, etc. And of course Canada continued to ramp up trade with the U.S. and U.K., while also soliciting foreign investment from same. Hey, this is a fun game to play ! Meh...she clearly stated that she and her government were against Apartheid but were also against sanctions. The horror. Meanwhile, Iran seems to be breathing easier these days and if I recall the same posters were all for lifting sanctions on Iran...poor dears. Quote Nothing cracks a turtle like Leon Uris.

The Catholic church have clearly stated that they were against child sex abuse but were also against doing anything to stop it. In fact, they not only did their best to cover the incidents, but allowed it to continue by moving the priests who liked doing children to other parishes where they re-offended. bush_cheney2004 Posted December 15, 2013 Report Posted December 15, 2013 And of course Canada also ramped down trade with SA, putting their money where their mouth was. As eventually so did the UK. The point is that Mulroney and Canada never put their money where their mouth was when it came to Reagan, trade, and investment with/from the U.S. , just as it had never really done so during the U.S. civil rights movement. WWWTT Posted December 24, 2013 Report Posted December 24, 2013 So they deserved it then. There we go... This is called playing the victim card. The victims are the ones who die. Quote
WWWTT Posted December 25, 2013 Report Posted December 25, 2013 Then what about the people who die in a drone strike? But lets not forget the thousands who died/suffered under decades of the SA white only government. Playing the victim card still! WWWTT Quote Maple Leaf Web is now worth $720.00! Guest Posted December 25, 2013 Report Posted December 25, 2013 They are victims too. Just not of terrorism. What do you mean by "Playing the victim card still!"? Quote
WWWTT Posted December 25, 2013 Report Posted December 25, 2013 The word "terrorism" is politically loaded and emotionally charged,[5] and this greatly compounds the difficulty of providing a precise definition. Studies have found over 100 definitions of "terrorism".[6][7] In some cases, the same group may be described as "freedom fighters" by its supporters and considered to be terrorists by its opponents. [8]The concept of terrorism may be controversial as it is often used by state authorities (and individuals with access to state support) to delegitimize political or other opponents,[9] and potentially legitimize the state's own use of armed force against opponents (such use of force may be described as "terror" by opponents of the state).[9][10] At the same time, the reverse may also take place when states perpetrate or are accused of perpetrating state terrorism. It's that simple! From what I have seen, I can only conclude that sympathy is what certain parties are trying to solicit. I summarize this as "playing the victim card" WWWTT Quote Maple Leaf Web is now worth $720.00! Down over $1,500 in less than one year! Total fail of the moderation on this site! Guest Posted December 25, 2013 Report Posted December 25, 2013 (edited) I didn't define it. Sympathy for whom? Which parties? Edit: Actually, just reading your link, this seems about right. Not so much as a definition, more an opinion. "Criminal acts intended or calculated to provoke a state of terror in the general public, a group of persons or particular persons for political purposes are in any circumstance unjustifiable, whatever the considerations of a political, philosophical, ideological, racial, ethnic, religious or any other nature that may be invoked to justify them."[23] Edited December 25, 2013 by bcsapper Quote
