Moonlight Graham Posted August 25, 2013 Report Posted August 25, 2013 Anyone see this film? I rather liked it. It didn't dumb itself down for the audience much (ie: it references the Pakistani ISI a few times throughout the film but doesn't explain exactly what the ISI is). I think some of the drama might be Hollywood BS, like how the female CIA agent who tracked Bin Laden was waiting on the tarmac in Afghanistan to greet the SEALS when they came back from the final mission, but the film was entertaining for as far as Hollywood historical accounts go. I thought this was a bit better film than Argo. Thoughts on the film? Quote "All generalizations are false, including this one." - Mark Twain Partisanship is a disease of the intellect.

GostHacked Posted August 26, 2013 Report Posted August 26, 2013 What is film about? Hollywood movie about the killing of Bin Laden. Heavily scripted with patriotism, slight revisionism, and dramatized for American audiences. Quote
Boges Posted August 26, 2013 Report Posted August 26, 2013 It's like they were trying to make a real-world version of Homeland. It's always like this with movies. The courier is the key to finding UBL but only this one woman believes in finding the courier. It's her vs everyone else in the CIA. Maya is just a representation of real-life women who worked for the CIA. I had seen a documentary about how they caught UBL a few months before watching this movie. I could see the similarities. I did think the movie was a tad too long. Quote
Accountability Now Posted August 26, 2013 Report Posted August 26, 2013 I thought it was a good movie but like all Hollywood productions of a true story, it is up to us to figure out the exact story. There is another movie (Seal Team Six) that is on Youtube which is very similar but adds a few points, removes a few and slightly changes some. HBO had a documentary called Manhunt which seemed to be a little more authentic but of course one can never tell. I guess somewhere amongst all the documentaries is the truth. Quote

Yes this is true. I always take films like this with a huge grain of salt. As a piece of entertainment though it was pretty good. What I thought was neat was the actual recreation of the OBL compound, which seemed pretty accurate (from the outside at least) compared to the real-life pictures I've seen of the site. YES...I thought the same thing. I was halfway through watching the HBO documentary when I watched Zero Dark Thirty and I couldn't believe how well done that was. Quote
