PBO: Harper Conservatives bureaucracy sprawl

Recommended Posts

with Harper Conservative platform claims of increased accountability... of enhanced transparency... long since dispatched as nothing more than shallow talking points/failed promises, we can now add the reality of a bloated government to the list of failed promises... unless 'smaller & leaner' means something else to Harper Conservatives!

Budget watchdog data shows bureaucracy grew under Harper

New data published by the Parliamentary Budget Office has tracked annual civil service payroll numbers by job classification and by federal department, and both are illuminating.

The PBO spread sheets reveal the number of individuals on the federal payroll rose 14 per cent between the end of the 2005-06 fiscal year, when Harper's Conservatives came to office, and 2012.

2005-2006? Do they take into account the federal job cuts since then?

The federal government said it would eliminate 19,200 jobs, about a third in the National Capital Region around Ottawa, as part of a spending review that will cut $5.2 billion over three years from government departments and agencies.

You're essentially going back in time and attacking the PM for an issue that's already been addressed.

perhaps take time to actually read... both the article as well as what I wrote. It's a reflection on what's happened during the tenure of Harper Conservatives.

you're talking about a future's budget projection. You know, Shady... the same budget projections, where budget after budget, a balanced budget is projected... and never realized. Of course, we now have Harper and Flaherty, seemingly, at odds on the latest budget projection... oh my! Harper, Flaherty seemingly at odds over balanced budget date

If you read the article, you'll see you're wrong.

14% increase 2005-2012.

Harper added 60 000 jobs.

Now he says he's cutting 19 000 ... maybe.

Do the math.

Why are you also pretending to be upset about his hiring? Besides, not all hiring is the same. Contracts are different than hiring permanent positions. So the devil is in the details. But yes, The 20,000 is a good start.

Do you think he'll ever get it down to the size it was when he took over?

Funny that eh? I guess he was just another lying politician eh?

Rode on the coattails of Liberal financial health ... and rode it right into the ground.

Ballooned the public service, overfilled the prisons, subsidized oil profits with millions of taxpayers' dollars.

He has no clue how to really run a country.

He's just telling you what you want to believe.

That's what politicians do.

It's up to us to check to see if they're really doing what they say.

Just like you want to believe, "Rode on the coattails of Liberal financial health ... and rode it right into the ground."

You can't have it both ways.

One way Harper has increased more liability for taxpayers is he created positions with in Parliament or his party, and their title is "State of". We have ministers who have parl. secretaries and now we have "state ofs"?? All these new positions will collected more pensions than they would just sitting as MP's . I bet most Canadians don't know what "Sate ofs" jobs are either.
