scribblet Posted May 24, 2013 Report Posted May 24, 2013 Just heard there's another one... Isn't it ironic that the NDP who promote equality, don't want to be equal with those who pay their taxes. Heard on the news their wages will be garnisheed.. Luv it... http://www.ctvnews.ca/politics/ndp-mp-loses-shadow-cabinet-post-over-non-payment-of-taxes-1.1295450 MONTREAL -- The NDP has suspended a member from its shadow cabinet because of his chronic, long-term failure to pay taxes. Tyrone Benskin has been stripped of his role as official-languages critic until he pays the taxes he owes. The announcement follows a report that Quebec's revenue agency has contacted the House of Commons to seize part of his salary because of more than $58,000 he owes the province for unpaid taxes between 2007 and 2011. scribblet Posted May 25, 2013 Author Report Posted May 25, 2013 The other one is NDP MP, Hoang Mai, also in the process of paying money back that is owed to Quebec's revenue agency. Quote Hey Ho - Ontario Liberals Have to Go - Fight Wynne - save our province

Heard on the news their wages will be garnisheed.. Luv it...You don't worry about presenting information dishonestly by suggesting the party didn't pay its taxes, when it's just a member whom the party has suspended for that reason? I guess the Party folk are getting desperate after spending the week defending thieves, liars, and crackheads. Guest Posted May 25, 2013 Report Posted May 25, 2013 Why aren't any of these people, Senators or MPs, facing jail time? Maybe they are and I haven't heard. Quote

I don't think they are and no one is calling for the RCMP to be called in. The RCMP of course are now being used as a political tool by the opposition. The_Squid Posted May 25, 2013 Report Posted May 25, 2013 Good riddance to the tax avoider. If only the government would go after the tax avoiding corporations and wealthy tax avoiders who use tax havens (ex PM Paul Martin comes to mind....) Quote

The NDP have already dealt with this in a way that is similar to how Harper handled the scams going on in his office. Are you trying to say the RCMP is corrupt and in the NDP's pocket? Wow. The victimization complex among the rabid partisans is incredible. Bob Macadoo Posted May 25, 2013 Report Posted May 25, 2013 I think if we're calling in the RCMP for outstanding tax payments there would be a lot of business owners in the hoosegow. There's a slight difference between being behind on taxes and fraudulently getting payments or double dipping for that matter. BubberMiley Posted May 25, 2013 Report Posted May 25, 2013 LOL I know. I just think it's funny that whenever something comes up the opposition wants to call in the RCMP. Which illegal actions by the Harper government are you specifically talking about? Sounds like you're making stuff up to me. The victimization complex among the rabid partisans is incredible. No partisan views here. They should all be in jail if they are ripping me off. I don't care what party they are. I think they did it right in the UK recently. Lots of very surprised MPs there when a few went to jail for stealing from the taxpayer. Quote
BubberMiley Posted May 25, 2013 Report Posted May 25, 2013 Really? You think Mike Duffy should go to.jail? Quote "I think it's fun watching the waldick get all excited/knickers in a knot over something." -scribblet

I guess if it's their first offence I could see a heavy fine, house arrest with an ankle bracelet, a few hundred hours of community service and a criminal record. You're right, no need for jail. August1991 Posted May 26, 2013 Report Posted May 26, 2013 (edited) Tyrone! It's hard being an actor. You get paid in a large, lumpsum (no deductions) and then at the end of the year, you have to declare and pay your taxes. Frankly, I think everyone should have to pay all taxes the way Tyrone Benskin was supposed to pay his taxes. IMHO, we should all pay taxes, in a lump sum, on the same day we vote. No GST, no income tax deductions, no property tax bill. But on the day you vote, you write a cheque for all the various tax payments during the year and then the registrar gives you a ballot, Is it any wonder that no election is held in March/April. ---- Oh, the irony! A socialist who doesn't pay his taxes, and a unilingual anglophone in a central Montreal riding (Verdun). I would say that the NDP vote in Quebec is very soft. And if I were Tyrone or Vegas et al, I would describe these past few years as another "life experience". Edited May 26, 2013 by August1991 Quote

I lived as an artist during the early mid 90's,and it's not an easy life! I had to give it up because I didn't want to live below the poverty line. I knew of several actors who were in a similar predicament as this Quebec MP.Earn good money one year, then next to nothing the next! The bill he introduced that addresses this reality for many,in my opinion should be revisited. As far as Mulcair's stance on this,he seems to be fair, just and reasonable. It could be worse,Mulcair could have asked revenue Canada to make this problem just go away.Or he could of asked another MP to pay the bill. WWWTT Quote Maple Leaf Web is now worth $720.00! In what Province would Duffy be in house arrest at? Maybe we should never lock up anybody till they stole more than $100K? Is that what people are propsing? Maybe that would free the jails for those pot smokers and people who own guns...
