bush_cheney2004 Posted December 13, 2012 Report Posted December 13, 2012 .....Canada is outperforming both Europe and the US. Define working conditions BTW? Outperforming what? Not worker productivity, where Canada has lagged for years: Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
Argus Posted December 15, 2012 Report Posted December 15, 2012 Also 500 over 52 weeks is about 10 hours a week. So does that mean people in France work a 40-hour work week and Americans generally work 50 plus? Or do people in France work an average of 30 hours a week and you're considering a standard 40-hour work week are bad working conditions. Many successful people work 50 hours a week plus, they do it because they love their jobs. If you're too lazy to read the link then you should stop posting. Yes, vacation is one metric on whether you're living to work or working to live. Most of us work to live. It's true some people have no lives and simply devote themselves entirely to work while their children, presuming they have any, grow up alone. But most don't consider that to be the desired lifestyle. Shady Posted December 15, 2012 Report Posted December 15, 2012 (edited) When discussing unions, we really need to seperate private unions from public unions. Private unions deal in reality, public unions don't. The public union solution to everything is raise taxes. And you've done a careful study of everything all public unions have proposed to every issue which has ever come up, have you? Shady Posted December 15, 2012 Report Posted December 15, 2012 And you've done a careful study of everything all public unions have proposed to every issue which has ever come up, have you? I've seen their "remedies" over the years. 99% of the time, it's raise taxes. Oh wait, they call them "investments" now. Quote
Shady Posted December 15, 2012 Report Posted December 15, 2012 At least private sector unions fight for their share of profits that they work for and help create. Public sector unions fight for their share of other people's profits. Usually so that they can have more vacation days, and a larger salary and benefits. All on the backs of other people's labour. Public sector unions fight for their share of other people's profits. Usually so that they can have more vacation days, and a larger salary and benefits. All on the backs of other people's labour. All unions fight for better pay and benefits. You're making an arbitrary distinction between people who work for private institutions and those who work for public ones. The fact is that management in either case makes a determination of what is appropriate to pay, of what is within their budgets. If the public management is more generous due to the interference of politicians then your fight is with the financial acumen of the politicians, not with the unions.
