Bonam Posted November 16, 2012 Report Posted November 16, 2012 100% is the limit, so yes taxes can be too high. Why is 100% the limit? The government could easily take all your income, confiscate all your wealth and property, and then declare that you still owe it more. That's how it worked during various communist revolutions. Some of the unhappiest nations on Earth are one of the lowest taxed. kairos Posted November 16, 2012 Report Posted November 16, 2012 I think the right wing should be taxed on each mythology they create. Canada would be swimming in the green. Quote
Fletch 27 Posted November 16, 2012 Report Posted November 16, 2012 I think the right wing should be taxed on each mythology they create. Canada would be swimming in the green. You know the "right wing" is 40% of Canadians right? AKA-The Democratic Magority? I say we oust the lazy-left who insist on others paying for the Lefts communistic dream! Quote
Merlin Posted November 16, 2012 Report Posted November 16, 2012 Either that Fletch or just let the left send in their money to revenue Canada on their own. Why do we need an official tax? If the people believe in giving more money to Ottawa that strongly then do it on your own and do not force the rest of us to pay any more. Quote

kairos Posted November 16, 2012 Report Posted November 16, 2012 (edited) You know the "right wing" is 40% of Canadians right? AKA-The Democratic Magority? I say we oust the lazy-left who insist on others paying for the Lefts communistic dream! What a dumbass. A Democratic majority is above 50%. If you meant the oligarchic minority, you would have been accurate. Also majority is spelled with a j. Edited November 16, 2012 by kairos Quote
cybercoma Posted November 16, 2012 Report Posted November 16, 2012 A Democratic majority is above 50%. And we have a representative majority (54% of the seats in the House). We don't have direct democracy. The problem that needs to be discussed is whether the representation is adequate when 39% of the popular vote can garner 54% of the seats. Quote
WWWTT Posted November 16, 2012 Report Posted November 16, 2012 It's not a terrible idea. Some municipalities like Calgary and Toronto do not have the fiscal capacity to manage their cities effectively. Moreover, the provinces are reluctant to spend multiple millions on projects in particular cities (ie, subways in Toronto) and that's not to speak of the upkeep on increasingly complex and expensive infrastructure. Property taxes are no longer fully effective. It's definitely worth a serious discussion. Yes,actually Brian Topp has informed me that there were polls conducted in Nova Scotia that clearly showed that the residents there were in favour of a modest tax hike as opposed to cuts in healthcare.
