TheNewTeddy Posted September 14, 2012 Report Posted September 14, 2012 I've proposed this before and it always seems unpopular, but, I'll try to make my case. I am proposing a Stupid Tax. Or, in other words, a tax on "Stupid" behaviour. This tax would be revenue neutral, and any money earned though this tax would be remitted to the public in the form of tax reductions. The end result will be that the "Stupid" will end up paying more taxes than the Non-Stupid and this be encouraged to stop being so Stupid. Lets examine this in various areas: Rules of the Road Honking your horn like nobody's business because you are upset at someone is stupid. It annoys people not involved and does nothing productive other than letting out your Neanderthal anger. This would be subject to the stupid tax. Those caught doing this would have to pay $20 per beep. Being Civilized It is unfortunate that many people's mothers seem to have never taught them about the concept of an "inside voice" and told them that this applies in places like train stations or on the bus. Those caught being loud without good reason (IE, yelling "OMG WE ARE GOING TO CRASH" just before a crash) will be subject to the stupid tax. Netiquette Trolling (defined as making posts to provoke a chaotic reaction from others) and Spamming (defined as making posts that do not contribute to the discussion in any way whatsoever) will be subject to the tax. The official law would contain many more examples and many more reasons to be subjected to the tax, but in short, this would lower your taxes, and, encourage people to stop being stupid at the same time. Moonbox Posted September 14, 2012 Report Posted September 14, 2012 Silly. Our system of law is not based on abitrary things you, or anyone else, finds irritating. Prove it causes harm and is worth going to court over or just suck it up and deal with it like the rest of us. That wasn't meant to be rude btw. cybercoma Posted September 14, 2012 Report Posted September 14, 2012 Bill Engvall could revive his career with this! "HEEEERE'S YOUR FINE!" Quote
The_Squid Posted September 15, 2012 Report Posted September 15, 2012 Talk about "big government"! There would be enforcement officers following people around all over the place handing out chintzy fines! No thanks. Quote
Newfoundlander Posted September 16, 2012 Report Posted September 16, 2012 Well I definitely read something stupid. Quote
Wilber Posted September 16, 2012 Report Posted September 16, 2012 We already do tax behaviour when it comes to things like alcohol and tobacco taxes. In a weird way I sort of like the idea. Probably a good thing it would be impossible to implement. Quote "Never trust a man who has not a single redeeming vice". WSC
