punked Posted September 2, 2012 Report Posted September 2, 2012 (edited) The NYT is report Bain along with many other firms are under investigation for tax evasion. They could have cheated the system out of as much as 200 million in taxes, and ripped Medicare off by as much as 20 million. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/02/business/inquiry-on-tax-strategy-adds-to-scrutiny-of-finance-firms.html?_r=2&pagewanted=all This only makes me want to see more of Mitts Taxes. waldo Posted September 2, 2012 Report Posted September 2, 2012 yup... this came to light with the 'Gawker document dump' I mentioned earlier... although, clearly, given the June date of the subpoena's, the New York Attorney General's office has been investigating this for some time now. Williard Romney: "I am not a crook!... trust me, there is no reason I'm not releasing my tax returns!" Quote

If nothing else then to shin the light of day on these types of practices that are cheating the system out of taxes but that the public doesn't know about. From your link: Some executives at the firms said they feared that Mr. Schneiderman, a first-term Democrat with ties to the Obama administration, was seeking to embarrass the industry because of Mr. Romney’s roots at Bain. Others suggested that the subpoenas, which were issued by the attorney general’s Taxpayer Protection Bureau, might be part of an effort to recover more revenue for New York under state tax law. The attorney general’s office does not have the power to enforce federal tax laws. Enough said.... Quote
Shady Posted September 2, 2012 Report Posted September 2, 2012 From your link: Enough said.... Exactly. Not to mention that it isn't the IRS, it's a partisan Democrat attorney general from New York trying to focus the light away from his own scandals. Shhh hits the fan for Albany DemsMeanwhile, Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is trying to wiggle out of any responsibility for the secret payout. That won’t be easy because an e-mail trail shows his office helped Silver craft the agreement and the confidentiality clause. It counts as big news that the Attorney General’s Office played any role in conspiring to hide from taxpayers such seedy deals NYP So he's decided to look for information on businesses "tax strategy." I wonder if he's talked to the IRS yet? Quote
Shady Posted September 2, 2012 Report Posted September 2, 2012 Conveniently timed as well. Kudos Mr. attorney general. Quote
waldo Posted September 2, 2012 Report Posted September 2, 2012 Enough said.... oh my! That's quite a cleverly launched ploy to insert Bain Capital into the greater mix of companies being investigated! "Among the firms to receive subpoenas are Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Company, TPG Capital, Sun Capital Partners, Apollo Global Management, Silver Lake Partners and Bain Capital". Quote
waldo Posted September 2, 2012 Report Posted September 2, 2012 Conveniently timed as well. Kudos Mr. attorney general. as I said, this began to have legs after the 'Gawker Bain Capital' document dump... criticism began to come forward as to why this "management fee" ploy wasn't being investigated. But, of course, it was actually being investigated by the NYT Attorney General's office... for at least several months prior to the 'Gawker dump'. what would be better timing for you, hey Shady? punked Posted September 2, 2012 Author Report Posted September 2, 2012 Conveniently timed as well. Kudos Mr. attorney general. Yep it is convenient that Mitts taxes prompted so much media investigation that it has lead to this isn't it? No wait it isn't convenient at all, it is just what one years of Mitts taxes have brought into the public eye. Can you imagine what his taxes are like from when he was not running? Quote

punked Posted September 2, 2012 Author Report Posted September 2, 2012 (edited) Like I've already told you, the IRS sees his taxes every year. Could care less. Look at what just one year has prompted. The IRS sees his taxes every year doesn't answer any questions of voters who want to see his taxes. People can vote for any reason they want I am sure there is a segment of the population that votes on transparency so Romney can say good bye to their votes. This is one of the reasons I am sure Romney is seeing one of the weakest bounces ever after the convention. McCain got an 11 point bounce Romney got a 1. Great job Romney keep these slow drip tax stories coming. You know he will because he has already told us on the 15th of October we get see some more. So this discussion wont stop no matter how much you want it to. Edited September 2, 2012 by punked Quote
Shady Posted September 2, 2012 Report Posted September 2, 2012 ha! Like you keep being reminded... apparently, word on the street has it that the IRS granted Romney an amnesty for his tax evasion. Word on the street is that Obama was one of the worst students in the history of Harvard University, and had to cheat to get by. Romney should clear all this up, hey Shady. Release the hounds tax returns, Mitt! He should do it now... you don't want this to be the 'October surprise'... do you, Shady? Ditto regarding Obama's college records. Quote

Ditto regarding Obama's college records. It would be stupid to believe that word considering he never took History at Harvard. Don't let that get in the way of your lies though you and Romney tell them so well. Although last time I checked it isn't illegal to be bad at history Shady. As for Obama's collage records. I seem to remember another incumbent president that had his collage records leaked during and campaign. I remember them showing he was pretty bad in school to. I also remember YOU AND THE AMERICAN PUBLIC not caring. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Edited September 2, 2012 by punked Quote
Shady Posted September 2, 2012 Report Posted September 2, 2012 The IRS sees his taxes every year doesn't answer any questions of voters who want to see his taxes. Right, so you think voters know more about tax law than the IRS? The IRS has seen Romney's tax returns every year for the last 40 years. You got nothing. However, if we wanna discuss actual tax cheats, we can always look at Obama's current administration... Timothy F. Geithner, President-elect Barack Obama’s choice for Treasury secretary, failed to pay more than $34,000 in federal taxes over several years early this decade, and also faces questions about the employment papers of a former household employee, suddenly complicating what had seemed to be an easy confirmation process in the Senate.NYT ... WASHINGTON AND LOS ANGELES — U.S. Rep. Hilda L. Solis, President Obama's choice for Labor secretary, faced new obstacles after lawmakers who were expected to vote on her confirmation Thursday abruptly canceled the hearing amid reports of back taxes owed by her husband.Solis, a Democrat from El Monte, is at least the fourth Obama nominee whose confirmation has been complicated by tax troubles. LAT ... After a closed-door session before the Senate Finance Committee this evening, embattled Health and Human Services nominee Tom Daschle apologized and said his failure to pay taxes was unintentional. You can defend tax evaders all you want Shady. It doesn't ANSWER ANY OF THE PUBLICS QUESTIONS. Your hey look over here strategy does nothing for your candidate and what he is hiding. Romney show US what you are hiding. As Shady has shown us political figures cheat on their taxes all the time, the best to catch them is to make then release their records. I can speak for sure and tell there is one ticket with out tax evaders on it, and there is a second ticket that might have two of them on it. I would like to see the tax records to find out. Quote

Shady Posted September 2, 2012 Report Posted September 2, 2012 Romney show US what you are hiding. He can't hide his tax returns from the IRS. They seem the every year, and go over them with a fine-toothed comb. You're grasping. Quote
waldo Posted September 2, 2012 Report Posted September 2, 2012 He's released two already. quit lying Shady - the Mitt has only released a single tax return... for the year 2010 - and as you're painfully aware, that is a most incomplete release given pertinent tax forms are missing... you know, the ones that deal with his "off-shore holdings". He isn't releasing more because they'll be used as distratctions, deflections, and obfuscation. how so, Shady? Other than the presumed illegalities, what possibly could be in the Mitt's tax returns that might be, uhhh... leveraged, so to speak? Come on Shady, step right into it! Why won't Obama release his college records? What is Barack hiding, waldo? don't know, don't care... academic records have never been a presidential reference benchmark. There is no tradition of presidents doing as much. Bush's academic records weren't "released"... they were "blown"! now since you've stepped into it again... where the citation you promised, repeatedly promised, concerning your claimed "Obama sealing of academic records". Where is it Shady? Is there a problem? Quote
Shady Posted September 2, 2012 Report Posted September 2, 2012 quit lying Shady - the Mitt has only released a single tax return... for the year 2010 I apologize, it was one tax return and the financial disclosure of last year, as the tax return isn't available yet. now since you've stepped into it again... where the citation you promised, repeatedly promised, concerning your claimed "Obama sealing of academic records". Where is it Shady? Is there a problem? Well he hasn't released them. Why do you think he hasn't? What could he be hiding? If you had to guess. Quote
bleeding heart Posted September 2, 2012 Report Posted September 2, 2012 (edited) Well he hasn't released them. Why do you think he hasn't? What could he be hiding? If you had to guess. If I bought into the notion, and I had to guess, and to play devil's advocate, I can't really think of anything except for, 1. low grades (which, as a...pretty recent President has shown us, is not an issue...maybe even an endorsement!) 2. some kind of academic disciplinary issue...which, again, is of little consequence, since we know that actual authorites (as opposed to university "authorities") were never brought into it. In other words....there's nothing plausible to argue for, even speculatively.
