MiddleClassCentrist Posted September 17, 2012 Author Report Posted September 17, 2012 Do you use Apple products? We have an iPod. It's a pain in the ass. Don't know how anyone could have thought the thing was "intuitive". We had an iBook, it was a piece of trash. I dont support companies that sell garbage at premium prices. Even if they try to fix up their act and still sell for a huge premium while claiming to be something different. Macs aren't magical. They are identical to PC's physically. Made with the exact same parts. Apple couldn't even write it's own operating system. It had to use Unix because they refused to hire proper operating system engineers. OS9 was absolute garbage. I'm not sure what you find so unintuitive about it, but it's a hell of a lot more intuitive than the other ones on the market that I've used. And what's an iBook? I'm hardly an Apple fan. I own more PC's than Apples if you include all the PC's I own at the two offices. That doesn't lead me to bow down towards Redmond five times a day either. Steve Jobs was a jerk and an idiot who could have saved himself if he didn't buy into alternative medical nonsense. You, though, are an anti-Apple fanboi. Apple makes good stuff and people like me do buy some of that stuff and, gasp, even enjoy it. As I've said elsewhere: when a product is 0.3 ish percent of your income price is irrelevant. I used to be as sad as you, MCC. I used to hate Apple for no discernible reason (since I wasn't using their products I was truly ignorant of them so really shouldn't have been such a hater). But I'm ignorant no more since I started using. But different strokes for different folks, eh? I have plenty of logical reasons, you just choose to ignore them. - Sell parts for an outrageous premium when they can be found for less than half the price elsewhere. - Didn't even make their on Operating System (The only thing that makes Macs different) - Poor customer service -> Had to be sued before they replaced shoddy iBook/iPod hardware - Pusher of planned/forced obsolescence - Has a patent to prevent iPhone users from taking pictures at concerts to protect potential copyright. (Big Brother Apple Corp) - Deletes eBooks off of your electronics without refund because Apple made a mistake (Big Brother Apple Corp) - Apple actively participated in price fixing of eBooks "The customer pays more, but that's what you want anyway" - Steve Jobs - Steve Jobs also refused to admit his daughter was his, and let her live on welfare for years. That is Apple. If I'm a hater of anything, it's people who mindlessly promote Apple. Can't say I've had any of the problems that you have listed. I also do not see where I have promoted Apple, nevermind "mindlessly" promoted them. I have liked the products I have experience with. For me paying a premium for their OS is worth the price. I don't care who made it. All I know is that I can only buy it from Apple so that's where I get it. But other people's mileage will vary. As for dirty baggage - I have had many terrible experiences with Microsh!t and Adobe and Chrome, for that matter. Still use the products, though. All companies have their haters. dre Posted September 18, 2012 Report Posted September 18, 2012 I think apple makes good stuff. It IS a little overpriced, but Iv had good experience with their products. But all this patent litigation has really turned me off and I think its a blatant attack on consumers. When my current iphone dies (its about my fourth) I will now buy a new Galaxy. blueblood Posted September 18, 2012 Report Posted September 18, 2012 I like the apple stuff because it's simple to use and it works. I can almost set my watch to it. It does everything I want it to efficiently. I'll be trading off my blackberry (processor is shot on it) for an iPhone which im already familiar with based on he iPad2 and iPod touch I have. I have an old laptop that's essentially a hard drive with a screen that doesn't do a lot. The iPad gets used ALOT. 5 gb of data for 35 per month and fast enough to watch YouTube basically priced a laptop and an I ternet stick out of the picture. Not to mention my iPad is still fast vs a PC which for some reason becomes slow. I don't know much about computers to be tinkering with them all the time. And apparently according to apples sales figutpres so do a lot of other people. Apples iPhone line is worth more than Microsoft. That's nuts! Boges Posted September 18, 2012 Report Posted September 18, 2012 (edited) Tablets are cool if you're a casual computer user. Most people are and that's why people get tabs now. Apple is ripping people off with their iPhone product. Now they're changing the wired adapter. The iPhone5 changes the proportions of the screen so older apps will have letterboxes. It's only matched year old Galaxy phones in terms of RAM and Speed. No NFC which could be the future of purchasing products. The only positive is that they finally got around to offering 4G/LTE. The new OS is nifty but you won't need an iPhone5 to enjoy it. The iPod Touch line is even more hilarious. It's minimum price is still $200! You can get a quality Tab for that. If you don't have a smartphone and you want an Mp3 player, you can get a Nano, Shuffle or a $20 player at the grocery store. Most people's exposure to iOS (I know mine is) is getting the iPod Touch because smartphone penetration wasn't nearly as much as it is now. Pretty much if you want a new phone from carriers you have to get a smartphone now.(with an Mp3 player included) But now the idea of an iPod Touch is outdated. That's why there's no competition. I got the touch because I have a berry. I got my 200 out of it, Im still getting the phone because the contract is up and the processor on the berry is shot. The iPod touch is geared toward guys who have other phones but still want music. Given that the iTunes store is gravy, lots of people use it to get music because of the fast speed, safety, and security. The touch is great for putting music in the machinery which is it's job while I work. The touch is actually on the cheap end of tablet computers. Has just as much space as the pad, just a tiny screen. I'm waiting to see if they pick up a bit, or if that market of a tiny tablet that is useless for anything but simple games and plays music sticks around. Stand alone Mp3 players are a passing fad. And enhanced mp3 players like the iPod touch are rather irrelevant. Again you pretty much have to buy a smartphone from carriers now. All phones play mp3's now. The Super/Smartphone will soon take the place of your wallet. It's already replaced several devices people uses to have all in one product. If you're one of those people that can't afford a smartphone, I saw an mp3 player at the checkout line at a grocery store recently. I think it was $20. The really shitty thing about iPods is that it requires iTunes to load music. I can load music on my Android phone straight from my browser wirelessly. For the really cheap mp3 players all you need to do is click drag and drop like a flash drive. Quote
