Guest Derek L Posted August 6, 2012 Report Posted August 6, 2012 Will you please get a grip, nobody's said anything about banning anything. From the OP: The pro-gun lobby is completely wrong and should be ignored when it comes to making policy about gun control. Scientific studies have shown that if a society has more guns then there will be more gun violence and death by guns. As proven, said assertion is incorrect. Quote

Guest Derek L Posted August 6, 2012 Report Posted August 6, 2012 And the word banned is where exactly? http://www.mapleleafweb.com/forums//index.php?showtopic=21188&st=30 Your comparison of guns to cars is silly. No, we do not need to ban cars, however, they could be made even safer. I do not advocate banning guns. Perhaps hand guns, but this should be debated. If they can be made safer, then that should be done. Further restrictions may work. I hunt. Rifles are a tool. Handguns are not. http://www.mapleleafweb.com/forums//index.php?showtopic=21188&st=30 Actually it would. Stemming the manufacture, importation and sale of handguns would certainly cut down on how many are available. Many legal guns eventually become illegal guns. Plus stepped up enforcement at the border would help. Quote
Guest Derek L Posted August 6, 2012 Report Posted August 6, 2012 (edited) Counting down the days for the media/RCMP fail to be released: Charges laid in Nanaimo grenade launcher case although no other weapon involved Read more: http://www.theprovince.com/news/Charges+laid+Nanaimo+grenade+launcher+case+although+other+weapon+involved/7032346/story.html#ixzz22kJXGd30 Charges were laid Thursday against a man found in possession of a grenade launcher in Nanaimo, but officials still aren’t sure what he and two other suspects were doing with the weaponry.RCMP officers made the discovery Wednesday morning after searching the Harbourside motel on Terminal Avenue, acting on a tip that some of the occupants may have firearms. The grenade launcher — the only weaponry found in the room — was designed to be attached to the barrel of a rifle.Police consulted with Canadian military officials Thursday and determined the 18-inch device did not appear to be stolen from military stores. I'm sure the military officials had a good laugh if said Grenade launcher pictured on the news site is the one RCMP seized, for one simple fact: M203 Grenade Launcher It’s a Nerf gun on steroids, or more correctly, an Airsoft toy…………For the launcher pictured, with the two large screws on the attachment point, would only launch a grenade a few feet when the launcher separated from the barrel, then said grenade exploded……….. Said real grenade launchers have a much larger attachment rail……….As a concerned citizen, I’ve already sent the Nanaimo RCMP an instructive email…….. Funny enough, no response Edited August 6, 2012 by Derek L Quote
Guest Derek L Posted August 8, 2012 Report Posted August 8, 2012 (edited) What’s with the incompetence of Vancouver Island RCMP detachments and the media: http://www.timescolonist.com/news/Guns+prohibited+ammunition+scopes+grenades+bullet+proof+vests/7053814/story.html While the eight rifles and four hand guns were registered, some were modified with accessories such as scopes, lights and a tripod which might make them restricted or prohibited weapons, Fossum said. There is nothing in the Firearms Act that changes the classification of a gun pertaining to “scopes, lights and tripods”…….utter bullshit. There were gun parts all over the house, evidence that the guns had been modified. Guns are allowed to be “modified”…..And there is certainly nothing in the Firearms Act banning a messy house. Const. Olen Bernardo, one of the investigators, said some of the guns were modified to look “more menacing” and he doubts any of them were used for hunting purposes. The guns were made to look “scary”? Tattoos and piercings can make people look scary, perhaps we should ban those also....... And someone should mention to the Constable, above in the article it’s mentioned that the guns are all registered, which means that they are restricted, which means they can’t be taken out into the woods and used for hunting………….Keystone Cops Investigators also seized dozens of illegal magazines and three bullet proof vests. When police first entered the house, they also found grenades, which almost sparked a call to the RCMP explosives unit, but the grenades had been rendered safe. What was illegal with the magazines? As to the grenades, there’s nothing illegal with owning deactivated grenades…..they are safe after all……..And bullet proof vests? Those are certainly legal in BC with a proper licence, a licence a mall security guard gets..... “We’re asking the question, why so many guns?” he said. Investigators are going to send the guns to a lab to determine whether any of the semi-automatic assault rifles had been modified to be fully automatic weapons, which are illegal. Or why not look on the side of the receiver or bolt carrier………Funny enough, since these guns are registered, that means they are Semi-Auto only………..To acquire the parts to make the gun go “full auto”, then modify the gun, are just as difficult and costly to obtain (and illegal) as a “proper”, select fire automatic………..Why not just buy an illegal, unregistered, Automatic? Fossum said the RCMP will apply to keep the guns, even if no criminal charges are laid. Police have to be able to argue the owner possessing the guns are a risk to public safety. Police can also make an application to have the gun owner prohibited from owning firearms in the future if they can prove he put people are risk by storing them improperly. Outright theft. And if said owner was home, the guns were not stored improperly………For every restricted gun owner would be breaking the law every time they are cleaning, repairing or fondling their guns at home………..As to the “loaded magazine”, if it was in a safe (regardless if said safe was open as long as the owner was home), that too is perfectly legal…………. An attorney that obtained his or her law degree from a cereal box will get this young man off………..It’s a shame that he’ll have to pay out the wahzoo in legal fees because these RCMP members are incompetent in Kanadistain’s firearms laws……… Edited August 8, 2012 by Derek L Quote

Half an hour after Jenn hung up the phone with her mother, her brother Charles came into the house with a .22-caliber rifle he had used to hunt armadillos in his grandmother's backyard. He later told police he thought he had unloaded to firearm and put it on the bed. When he accidentally knocked it off, fired. The bullet struck Jenn in the chest. Apparently, the boy is 13 years old. The mother believes it is God's will and NOTHING could have prevented it... some might say that not allowing children to handle loaded weapons may have prevented it, but then perhaps God would have just struck the girl down with a bolt of lightening I suppose.... Yes, and guns can be modified in ways that make them prohibited weapons. Such as Part III of the criminal code (which also references a prescribed list of prohibited firearms - which I haven't bothered to look up). The guns were made to look “scary”? Guest Derek L Posted September 3, 2012 Report Posted September 3, 2012 (edited) Gun swap aims to show long-gun registry was 'useless' I think this protest, from the standpoint of gun owners, is redundant, since minutes after the LGR demise, said data became useless as millions of guns have since been bought and sold (and retrieved from “holes in the backyard”), but as a form of political action, mission accomplished, since it’s been reported by the MSM…………….. From the CSSA: Great Canadian Gun Registry Shuffle And the beauty part: We are asking firearms owners to buy, sell and swap guns to make the registry data even less accurate -- if that's possible! We all know the data is wonky, outdated and useless, but anti-gun advocates continue to protect the data for future use. They are intentionally snubbing the law. It's time to fix that by making the data so transparently unusable that it isn’t worth protecting. That's where you come in. You can show your support and intentions to shuffle through blogs, letters to the editor, radio call-in shows, and all social media to confirm that you support this initiative. It's just as important to let others know that you're shuffling your firearms as doing it. And of course, your claims cannot be substantiated because there is no registry to record the changes. We all win. I may have already bought and sold near 25 firearms (Unregistered, non-restricted of course) from licensed gun owners and dealers since May.......... Guest Derek L Posted September 3, 2012 Report Posted September 3, 2012 Scarborough man charged in toddler’s drowning death released on $15K bail Toronto’s Municipal Licensing and Standards division was at the scene yesterday to post an emergency order on the building and secure the area surrounding the pond. Under chapter 447 of the municipal code, any backyard pond deeper than 600 millimetres must have a fence around it.Lance Cumberbatch, the licensing and standards division’s director of investigation services, said the pond where the incident occurred was about one metre at its deepest point. There was a fence with gates surrounding the pond, but the gates had been removed for some reason, said Mr. Cumberbatch. “The purpose of the fence, of course, is to prevent tragedies like this, to keep the area safe by preventing folks from getting in because it has a lock or a latch on it and it’s designed so you can’t climb over from the outside,” said Mr. Cumberbatch.
