And what makes you think they would/should "give a shit" about Syrians?

Economics trumps Virtue.

Turkey, Israel and Jordan. Those three nations are in one way or another allies of the United States and by extension the western World, they are relatively stable democracies, should the US ignore and abandon anyone or all three of those nations bad rings will happen.

-If the US does not back Turkey in any potential conflict with Syria NATO is for all intents and purposes finished.

-I doubt that the US will abandon Israel, but if they did then the Middle East is in for a very rough time even when compared to the current situation.

-Abandoning Jordan means that the US loses an important ally in the region since Jordan is one of the few stable relatively democratic Arab nations and this would mean that everything that the US has done in the last few decades in regards to the ME would be for nothing.
